FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (2/27)

Feb 27, 2018

After a busy trade deadline day, there is a nine-game slate this evening with a lot of players on new teams. A couple of injuries have also led to opportunities and call-ups. Before setting your lineup, make sure to confirm the starting lines on each team. Let’s take a look at some value options tonight so we can afford the high priced studs.

Tyler Bozak (TOR): $4,800 @ FLA
Toronto will take on the Panthers after losing in a shootout last night to the Lightning. The injury to Auston Matthews has given veteran Tyler Bozak a promotion, now centering the top power-play unit. Florida is the most undisciplined team in the NHL averaging 11.6 penalty minutes per game (31st). This should give the third liner a lot of extra opportunity in a high-event game which should showcase plenty of offense.

Nick Bjugstad (FLA): $4,900 vs. TOR
In the same game, you can look at Nick Bjugstad to save salary. He will play alongside Aleksander Barkov and Evgeny Dadonov on the top line, seeing the most minutes of any Panthers forwards. Although he won’t see power-play time, Bjugstad has recorded nine points in the last 11 games and is clearly finding chemistry. The Leafs may look a little sluggish tonight from playing last night which will add intrigue to rostering this Panther line.

Anton Slepyshev (EDM): $3,600 @ SJ
Trading power-forward Patrick Maroon yesterday opened up top-six minutes for the talented winger, Anton Slepyshev. The Edmonton Oilers 2017-18 season is all but over. Now they will need to see what they have in their young prospects. Slepyshev is currently looking like he will play next to Connor McDavid tonight. He is one of the few forwards who has the speed to keep up with McDavid and will benefit offensively if this line stays intact. He takes a lot of shots and can generate offense. Having the opportunity to play on the top forward line is just the opportunity he needs.

Sami Vatanen (NJ): $4,700 @ PIT
The New Jersey Devils were busy adding two offensive players who will certainly be key assets in their playoff run. Tonight will be a tough task as they will travel to Pittsburgh. The Penguins are not a very defensive team and this game should be one of the higher scoring games of the night. Sami Vatanen is still far too cheap given his ice-time and powerplay presence. Looked to as the quarterback on the top PP, Vatanen is a skilled offensive defenseman. With eight assists in his last eight games, Vatanen is also averaging well over 20 minutes a night. He will be leaned on heavily tonight against this strong Pittsburgh team which adds to his fantasy production potential.

Philipp Grubauer (WAS): $8,000 vs. OTT
Although playing in the second game of their back-to-back, the Washington Capitals should win this game handily. After shipping center Derick Brassard to the Penguins and all of the drama looming around Erik Karlsson, the Ottawa Senators are a bit of a mess. Grubauer hasn’t had stellar numbers this year, but has been good enough and is now back to .500 after two wins against the Sabres. Now sitting with a 2.53 GAA and .919 SV%, Grubauer is the least expensive goalie to consider tonight.
