FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (2/6)

With a quiet Monday night in the NHL, Tuesday brings an 11-game slate with plenty of options to consider. There are a lot of expensive players to pay up for tonight in great spots, so value hunting will be important, as usual. A lot of injuries to key players has opened up playing time and opportunity for low-priced skaters looking to make a name for themselves. Let’s take a look at some viable plays.

Center

Chris Tierney (SJ): $3,700 @ COL
Joe Thornton is out for several weeks with a knee injury. Although Chris Tierney is not moving up to the first or second line, Tierney has been logging close to 20 minutes a night of ice time. What is more intriguing is the matchup. Colorado will be without their best player, Nathan MacKinnon. Mikko Rantanen is listed as questionable, but even if he does suit up, he won’t be 100%. The Avalanche should struggle to find much offense and in turn, stop San Jose from scoring. At less than $4,000, Tierney will also center the second power-play unit.

Wing

Bryan Rust (PIT): $3,700 vs. VGK
The Pittsburgh Penguins are also dealing with a couple of key injuries which will give Bryan Rust even more opportunity tonight. The Vegas Golden Knights are not necessarily a team we like to pick on, especially with the Marc-Andre Fleury return game narrative. But, whenever there is a player priced this low who plays with Sidney Crosby, we need to take a look. Checking the final line combinations before the game starts will be key. Phill Kessel is also a game-time decision (I expect him to play through). Sidney Crosby is also sitting on 399 career goals. Being motivated to notch his 400th, on what will be a very emotional night, is something Rust can help contribute toward.

Miles Wood (NJ): $4,100 @ OTT
The New Jersey Devils should completely dominate this game. With the injuries to an already bad Senators team, look for New Jersey to score a lot tonight. If you are looking to stack the Devils, Jesper Bratt would be a better option to combine with Taylor Hall and Nico Hischier. As a one-off, Miles Wood is better. He is lightning fast and creates offense on his own from creating turnovers and scoring on breakaways. He will also slot in on the top power-play unit. However, skating on the second line makes him a great one-off Devil.

Defense

Tyler Myers (WPG): $4,400 @ COL
If you have the extra salary, spend up to Dustin Byfuglien. However, Tyler Myers is a great pivot to save. The injury to Jacob Trouba has left a lot of available ice time for Big Buf and Tyler Myers. Myers will quarterback the second power-play unit and skate on the top defensive pairing. At home, the Jets should control this game from start to finish against a bad Arizona team. As a big favorite at home, getting a piece of Winnipeg will be important.

Goalie

Keith Kinkaid (NJ): $7,800 @ OTT
As mentioned earlier, the Devils should win this game handily. With the win so important and the need for value, look for the Devils netminder to give us a high floor at a low price tonight. He has won five of his last six starts and seems to be thriving with his opportunity after the Corey Schneider injury. There are a lot of goalies in great spots tonight, but Kinkaid is one of the better value plays as a lock for a win.
