FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (3/10)
We’re getting to that point of the season where the schedule is less predictable, and while next week is very busy we have only four games to work with tonight. There’s only a couple of potential teams to dogpile tonight (Rangers and Oilers) and Edmonton is actually playing decent hockey of late allowing only 11 goals in their last four games. The Rangers have played at the same defensive clip in their last four so I’m going to look at individual hot streaks and line combinations more closely.
Aleksander Barkov (FLA): $7,700 vs. NYR
Barkov is becoming the franchise center Dale Tallon envisioned when he drafted the hulking forward second overall in 2013. With 13 points in his last seven games, he’s been unstoppable lately and the Rangers are 26th in defense. He leads the forwards in ice time (22:17) and also logs a healthy 3:26 on the power play.
Eric Staal (MIN): $7,500 vs. EDM
Staal continues to be one of the best free agent signings in recent memory. Kudos to Chuck Fletcher for trading a measly third-round pick for their franchise goalie and signing Staal to a very team friendly deal. He is on a point per game pace after 67 contests and is tied for fourth in the league in goal scoring with 36. While Edmonton doesn’t seem to be tanking (it would be ridiculous if they somehow got another No. 1 overall pick), they are still the fourth worst team in the league defensively.
Calle Jarnkrok (NSH): $4,400 vs. NJ
The first of my bargain wingers, Jarnkrok has tallied 35 points this season and has five points in his last seven games. He’s basically getting third line minutes (15:55) but New Jersey is only 20th in defense while Nashville is seventh on offense.
Ryan Spooner (NYR): $5,300 vs. FLA
Whether he was a throw-in player or not in the recent blockbuster trade between the Rangers and Bruins, I think most people have been pleasantly surprised by Spooner’s 10 points in his first six games. He is currently slated for New York’s second line and is priced fairly low for a player this hot.
Kevin Fiala (NSH): $4,800 vs. NJ
Another bargain for sure, and a streaky player at that, Fiala nonetheless has 42 points already. He is the fourth leading scorer among the Predators forwards and is averaging about the same amount of ice time as Jarnkrok but also 2:23 on the power play.
Evgeny Dadonov (FLA): $6,300 vs. NYR
This is a fun player to watch and one of the hottest wingers in the NHL. He has 13 points (including six goals) in his last seven games and plays on Florida’s top line with superstar Barkov. The Rangers gave up five goals to Tampa and may well let that many in against a surging Florida squad.
Keith Yandle (FLA): $5,200 vs. NYR
Yandle has quietly enjoyed another stellar offensive season for the Panthers. With nine points in his last seven games, he is showing no signs of slowing down and has been a key contributor to Florida’s 7-2-1 record in their last 10 games. He logs an impressive 24:36 in ice time and 3:46 on the power play.
P.K. Subban (NSH): $5,300 vs. NJ
P.K. has been a bit cold lately, with only two assists in his last seven games, so I’m betting his inevitable breakout occurs tonight. His 50 points attest to his offensive prowess and he logs over 24 minutes of ice time and runs the number one power play (3:10 per game). He’s too good to keep off the score sheet much longer.
Roberto Luongo (FLA): $8,500 vs. NYR
Luongo is in the zone right now, as indicated by the recent 7-2-1 run. His stats have been excellent again this year (2.50 goals against average and 0.930 save percentage). He is coming off a 40-save shutout victory over Montreal and is currently the projected starter against the Rangers. As always, make sure your goalie is a confirmed starter before entering your lineup.
