FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (3/17)

We have 14 teams on the main slate tonight as the playoff race intensifies. Teams such as Columbus, Philly, Minnesota and San Jose are definitely in the hunt and should be bringing their A game. St. Louis may have a puncher’s chance while Boston, Tampa Bay and Toronto are in the driver’s seat. On the other side of the tracks, Vancouver was shut out twice in a row this week and Montreal has only three wins in their last 10 games.

Center

Matt Duchene (OTT): $6,000 vs. CLS
Don’t look now but the Matt Duchene trade may be alright for the Senators. After a disastrous start and a season that’s circling the drain for the Senators, some solace can be found in Duchene’s play the last month or so. With four goals and four assists in his last seven games, you no longer have to use a fake name to enter him in your lineup. With 18:40 of average ice time and 2:38 on the power play, he is again a legitimate option.

Logan Couture (SJ): $6,900 vs. VAN
An underrated star toiling in the relative obscurity of the left coast, Couture is putting together another solid season (on pace for 32 goals and 60 points). He’s not that cheap at $6,900 but he is playing the Canucks who are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games (they may already have their Rasmus Dahlin jersey stitched and ready for draft day), and they are now the third worst defensive team in the league.

Wing

Claude Giroux (PHI): $7,500 vs. CAR
I must confess I was surprised to see the extent of Giroux’s bounce-back season (from 58 points to a projected 94). He did hit 90 points once before and had another season of 86 points, so it’s not a fluke, but a pleasant surprise after three straight seasons with declining point totals. He is playing a funky Carolina team with a new, hands-on owner and a GM that was just “reassigned”. The Canes are 22nd in defense and Giroux is still consistently productive with eight points in his last seven games.

Jason Zucker (MIN): $6,300 vs. ARI
Zucker also has more pep in his step this season (on pace for 62 points after posting 47 last year). At 26 years of age, he is entering his prime as a solid offensive winger and has solid ice time totals (16:59 and 2:15 on the power play). While Arizona has played better hockey of late, they are still 25th in defense.

Mikkel Boedker (SJ): $4,000 vs. VAN
This is pretty much a bargain option that is playing the Vancouver Tankers. Having said that, Boedker has 10 points in his last 12 games and is currently slated for the second line with Couture.

J.T. Miller (TB): $6,500 vs. BOS
With 12 points in his last 12 games, Miller could emerge as a key Tampa Bay forward down the stretch and into the playoffs. He has found himself on the top line with Stamkos and Kucherov and I don’t know you, but would probably insert you in my lineup if you were playing on that line. He is on pace for a solid 56 point season but should score at a much higher clip now.

Defense

Ryan Suter (MIN): $5,400 vs. ARI
Suter is putting together another quietly excellent season with 47 points, 140 shots and 121 blocks to date. He has a solid 11 assists in his last 13 games and should have great opportunities to get on the scoresheet against the Coyotes.

Ryan McDonagh (TB): $4,900 vs. BOS
Another excellent former Ranger, it may take a few games for McDonagh to get his sea legs, but I’m wagering he will start producing sooner than later. Typically a minute muncher (23:46 of average ice time), it was a good sign to see him log 19:15 in his first game with Tampa Bay, and he comes into this contest with over 130 blocked shots.

Goalie

Alex Lyon (PHI): $7,500 vs. CAR
I don’t usually like getting cute with my goalies, but almost all of the options tonight give me the creeps. Lyon is currently slated to start and has been solid in his limited action so far (2-2, 2.57 goals against average and 0.912 save percentage). The previously dissed Hurricanes are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and Philly has to win this game to hold onto a playoff spot. As always, make sure your goalie is a confirmed starter before entering your lineup.
