FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (3/24)

A smorgasbord of 20 teams await us tonight, so there are plenty of options to agonize over. It’s BOLO time (be on the lookout) in the NHL as some teams will have (or will soon have) the luxury of resting some of their stars as they prepare for the playoffs. Torey Krug was a pretty late scratch earlier this week, Sean Monahan has been shut down by the Flames, and Andrei Vasilevskiy has complained of fatigue recently. If you don’t already check for late injuries/scratches right up until puck drop, now is a good time to start.

Center

Brayden Point (TB): $6,500 vs. NJ
Point is a legitimate option every week now as his 61 points will attest. He has been steady, but not spectacular lately (with one goal and four points in his last six games), so I’m rolling the dice that he breaks out with a big game against a defensively average Devils squad (17th in goals allowed).

Mathew Barzal (NYI): $6,300 vs. CHI
With recent injuries to Brock Boeser and Charlie McAvoy, Barzal looks to be the heavy favorite to win Rookie of the Year honors. He would be a deserving candidate most years and has not hit a wall, with seven points in his last six games. He now has an amazing 76 points to date and is facing a Chicago team that is 23rd in defense. The Blackhawks will most likely be without Jonathan Toews, their best defensive forward, someone that possibly would have been matched up against the rookie.

Wing

Kevin Fiala (NSH): $5,000 vs. MIN
A solid option at a solid price, Fiala shouldn’t lose you money, but probably won’t win you any either. He is currently a fixture on Nashville’s second line, skating with solid (there’s that word again) linemates in Kyle Turris and Craig Smith. He is clocking a decent 15:18 in ice time with 2:23 on the power play.

William Nylander (TOR): $5,700 vs. DET
Nylander has potted 53 points to date but has missed the presence of young superstar linemate Auston Matthews. Having him back should propel Nylander’s production going forward, and I could see this game being a bit of a blowout. Detroit is 1-8-1 in its last 10 games and may be stanking (combination of stinking and tanking) for the balance of the season.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM): $6,400 vs. LA
Nugent-Hopkins has 42 points in 56 games, but the real appeal is the fact that he’s currently on the same line as Connor McDavid (who had a four-point game recently). Los Angeles is good defensively (third in the league), but McDavid has an amazing 94 points already, and the Nuge is more than capable of getting some side action.

Anders Lee (NYI): $6,500 vs. CHI
I’m doubling down against the Blackhawks, especially with the absence of Toews. Lee is pushing 40 goals already, and I think both of New York’s top lines will thrive against Chicago (2-7-1 in their last 10 games) and projected starter Anton Forsberg (3.42 gaa and 0.895 save percentage in his last four games).

Defense

Jake Gardiner (TOR): $4,800 vs. DET
Another stack, this time against the Red Wings. Gardiner has an impressive 44 points to date with 119 shots and 95 blocks. The Leaf’s power play has been deadly this year at close to 24 percent and is on fire right now. Gardiner logs an impressive 22:29 in ice time and 2:50 on the power play. He looks like a steal at $4,800.

Keith Yandle (FLA): $5,500 vs. ARI
Yandle is putting together another quietly excellent offensive season out of the spotlight in Florida. While his 84 blocked shots are not heroic, he has 49 points and 158 shots to his name. Antti Raanta has been very good lately (1.69 goals against average and 0.954 save percentage in his last 3 games), but Florida is now 15th in offense and have been playing inspired hockey of late (other than the 4-0 defeat Thursday to the red-hot Blue Jackets). I’m betting they shake off that loss and take out some offensive frustrations on the second worst team in the league.

Goalie

Frederik Andersen (TOR): $8,300 vs. DET
Go Leafs! I debated between Anderson and Philipp Grubauer (against Montreal), but the Canadiens often seem to play their best hockey on Saturday night. Anderson has been the Leaf’s best player this year (easily) and they need him to be in the groove as they head to the playoffs. While the Leafs are noted for playing the top teams well, I’d be shocked if they looked past this game. As always, make sure your goalie is a confirmed starter before entering your lineup.
