DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (4/13)

For the Friday DRAFT schedule, there are three options when it comes to the player pool: 15 games (2:20 pm), 14 games (6:40 pm), and three games (10:10 pm).

Four games are given an over/under of at least nine total runs and three teams are pegged as the strong favorite (-180 or better). Which games should you target when selecting your DRAFT lineup? Let’s find out!

Pitchers

1. Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS (vs. BAL)

2. Gerrit Cole, HOU (vs. TEX)

3. Mike Clevinger, CLE (vs. TOR)

4. Yu Darvish, CHC (vs. ATL)

5. Kenta Maeda, LAD (vs. ARI)

6. Zack Greinke, ARI (@ LAD)

7. Luke Weaver, STL (@ CIN)

8. Andrew Triggs, OAK (@ SEA)

9. Tanner Roark, WSH (vs. COL)

10. Dillon Peters, MIA (vs. PIT)

After a brief DL stint, Rodriguez made his 2018 debut against the Rays. Though he only pitched 3.2 innings and allowed three earned runs, E-Rod also struck out seven batters. Baltimore leads MLB with 131 strikeouts this season. With that combination, it could be a lucrative game for Rodriguez’s owners.

If you’re looking for the consistent, safe draft pick, then Cole is your guy. In his first two performances of the season, Cole struck out 11 batters in seven innings. In each start! On Friday, he’ll face the Rangers. They fell to Cole in his first start of 2018. They were only able to record two hits and notch one run.

Infielders

1. J.D. Martinez, BOS (vs. BAL)

2. Gary Sanchez, NYY (@ DET)

3. Brian Dozier, MIN (vs. CWS)

4. Travis Shaw, MIL (@ NYM)

5. Matt Carpenter, STL (@ CIN)

11. Matt Davidson, CWS (@ MIN)

12. Whit Merrifield, KC (vs. LAA)

13. Anthony Rendon, WSH (vs. COL)

14. Jose Altuve, HOU (vs. TEX)

15. Jose Ramirez, CLE (vs. TOR)

16. Eduardo Nunez, BOS (vs. BAL)

17. Mitch Moreland, BOS (vs. BAL)

18. Francisco Lindor, CLE (vs. TOR)

19. Justin Bour, MIA (vs. PIT)

20. Jose Abreu, CWS (@ MIN)

As I write this, the BAL/BOS game has the highest over/under on the slate with 10 total runs (currently, four games are missing the Vegas line). Boston is also the heavy favorite in this matchup. That leads me to believe that the Red Sox offense will produce plenty of runs for Rodriguez.

Surprisingly, one of the hottest hitters in the past seven days has been Mous. Thus far, he’s 11-for-28 (.395) with two home runs. Moustakas has recorded double-digit hits in five consecutive games with four hits going for extra-bases.

Outfielders

1. Mike Trout, LAA (@ KC)

2. Tommy Pham, STL (@ CIN)

3. Marcell Ozuna, STL (@ CIN)

4. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (@ DET)

5. Dexter Fowler, STL (@ CIN)

6. Aaron Judge, NYY (@ DET)

7. Brett Gardner, NYY (@ DET)

8. Bryce Harper, WSH (vs. COL)

9. Mookie Betts, BOS (vs. BAL)

10. Justin Upton, LAA (@ KC)

11. Ian Happ, CHC (vs. ATL)

12. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (@ TB)

13. Andrew McCutchen, SF (@ SD)

14. Michael Conforto, NYM (vs. MIL)

15. George Springer, HOU (vs. TEX)

16. Matt Joyce, OAK (@ SEA)

17. Yoenis Cespedes, NYM (vs. MIL)

18. Jay Bruce, NYM (vs. MIL)

19. Starling Marte, PIT (@ MIA)

20. Jackie Bradley Jr., BOS (vs. BAL)

Tyler Mahle has the third-highest SIERA from 2017 of the Friday pitching slate (5.53). In his last outing, Mahle allowed five earned runs on nine hits (against Pittsburgh). That makes the Cardinals a very popular option when considering hitters in DRAFT. Pham, Ozuna, and Fowler are all in the top five outfielder rankings for Friday. Last season, all three of those outfield options compiled an ISO above .200 against right-handed pitchers. Ozuna led the way with a .268 ISO.

The Angels are another team with a high implied run total (5.3) as a favorite. We always have Trout as one of the top options, but now we need to consider Upton on a daily basis. He concluded 2017 with a .234 ISO against righties. In the past seven days, Upton has tallied 10 hits (.370 AVG). Four of those hits were for extra bases, including two home runs.
