DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (4/20)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (4/20)

We’re ignoring the KC/DET tune-up (first game of the doubleheader) on Friday and jumping straight to the 15-game slate (7:05 pm).

Six games have an over/under of at least nine total runs (no line for HOU/CWS yet). In those matchups, two have a favorite by a margin of at least -160 (MIL and NYY). Plus, Coors Field is back in the mix.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Max Scherzer, WSH (@ LAD)

2. Noah Syndergaard, NYM (@ ATL)

3. Clayton Kershaw, LAD (vs. WSH)

4. Justin Verlander, HOU (@ CWS)

5. Trevor Bauer, CLE (@ BAL)

6. Sean Newcomb, ATL (vs. NYM)

7. Dylan Bundy, BAL (vs. CLE)

8. Chris Archer, TB (vs. MIN)

9. Jon Gray, COL (vs. CHC)

10. Andrew Heaney, LAA (vs. SF)

It’s going to be a duel at Dodger Stadium on Friday night between Scherzer and Kershaw (thanks to Rich Hill’s cracked fingernail). While it will be tough for either pitcher to score the four-point win, Scherzer has produced back-to-back 20-point performances on DRAFT. Mad Max has tallied double-digit strikeouts in three out of four starts this season. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in an outing, either.

In deeper drafts, I know Syndergaard is the opposing pitcher, but don’t forget about Newcomb. The Mets are 30th in team ISO (.085) and wOBA (.269) when facing left-handed pitchers this season. Newcomb also notched 16 strikeouts in his last two combined starts (11.1 innings of work).

Infielders

1. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (vs. SD)

2. Kris Bryant, CHC (@ COL)

3. J.D. Martinez, BOS (@ OAK)

4. Carlos Correa, HOU (@ CWS)

5. Anthony Rizzo, CHC (@ COL)

6. Nolan Arenado, COL (vs. CHC)

7. Jose Altuve, HOU (@ CWS)

8. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (vs. TOR)

9. Eric Thames, MIL (vs. MIA)

10. Didi Gregorius, NYY (vs. TOR)

11. Manny Machado, BAL (vs. CLE)

12. Freddie Freeman, ATL (vs. NYM)

13. Joey Votto, CIN (@ STL)

14. Travis Shaw, MIL (vs. MIA)

15. Nelson Cruz, SEA (@ TEX)

16. Ian Kinsler, LAA (vs. SF)

17. Javier Baez, CHC (@ COL)

18. Gary Sanchez, NYY (vs. TOR)

19. Jose Martinez, STL (vs. CIN)

20. Ryan Braun, MIL (vs. MIA)

Wow, is this a stacked slate for offense, or what? When Freeman and Votto are No. 12 and 13, it’s a loaded ticket. Naturally, with CHC/COL boasting a 10.5 over/under at Coors Field, that game will be highly represented. Three of the top six infielders are from that matchup. Rizzo returned to action on Thursday (3-for-4) and Arenado (suspension) should be able to return to the starting lineup. Both have high ISO numbers against right-handed pitchers (.226 ISO for Rizzo and .221 ISO for Arenado).

Thames and his .308 ISO against righties (combined between 2017 and 2018) makes the cut for our top 10 infielders. He’s homered in two of the past three games and Thames’ Brewers are strong favorites against Miami, where Vegas has set the O/U at nine total runs.

Outfielders

1. Charlie Blackmon, COL (vs. CHC)

2. Mookie Betts, BOS (@ OAK)

3. Mike Trout, LAA (vs. SF)

4. Aaron Judge, NYY (vs. TOR)

5. Tommy Pham, STL (vs. CIN)

6. George Springer, HOU (@ CWS)

7. Kyle Schwarber, CHC (@ COL)

8. Khris Davis, OAK (vs. BOS)

9. Justin Upton, LAA (vs. SF)

10. Christian Yelich, MIL (vs. MIA)

11. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (vs. PIT)

12. A.J. Pollock, ARI (vs. SD)

13. Ian Happ, CHC (@ COL)

14. Mitch Haniger, SEA (@ TEX)

15. David Peralta, ARI (vs. SD)

16. Andrew McCutchen, SF (@ LAA)

17. Lorenzo Cain, MIL (vs. MIA)

18. Bryce Harper, WSH (@ LAD)

19. Starling Marte, PIT (@ PHI)

20. Nick Castellanos, DET (vs. KC)

When you hit four home runs in the past three games, you find yourself high in the rankings. Betts belted three homers on Tuesday and led Thursday’s game off with a home run. We are 20 days into April and Betts is batting .438 (21-for-48) with six doubles and five home runs this month. Simply incredible.

If Judge playing at home isn’t enough to entice you into drafting him, then his career numbers against Marco Estrada will: 7-for-17 (.412) with four extra-base hits (two home runs). Judge has homered in two of the past three performances this week.
