DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (4/2)

We were spoiled with aces galore in the first few games, and now the back end of the rotations are starting to rear their ugly heads.

No fear, because we break down the best options of the bunch in Monday’s DRAFT DFS lineup advice and suggestions.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Charlie Morton, HOU (vs. BAL)

2. Mike Clevinger, CLE (@ LAA)

3. Jameson Taillon, PIT (vs. MIN)

4. Tanner Roark, WSH (@ ATL)

5. Brian Johnson, BOS (@ MIA)

6. Tyler Chatwood, CHC (@ CIN)

7. Ben Lively, PHI (@ NYM)

8. Taijuan Walker, ARI (vs. LAD)

9. Bryan Mitchell, SD (vs. COL)

10. Andrew Triggs, OAK (vs. TEX)

I almost stopped ranking pitchers after Morton. I definitely wanted to stop after Taillon. Basically, I wouldn’t recommend waiting to select your starting pitcher if your contest is more than a head-to-head showdown.

Morton is by far the best option for Monday. His Astros are the strongest favorites (-220) and Morton had a stellar 2017. Other than winning Game 7 of the World Series, Morton produced a 10 K/9 (career-high) and he’ll look to continue that momentum into 2018.

With the Rays/Yankees game postponed, that eliminates the No. 2 pitcher in my rankings (Jordan Montgomery). Now, an already thin pitcher pool reduces, again. Clevinger is a risk, facing a loaded Angels lineup, but he was successful in his only start in Angel Stadium last year: 6 IP, 6 K, 1 ER. Hopefully, we get a repeat performance on Monday night.

Infielders

1. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (vs. LAD)

2. Jose Altuve, HOU (vs. BAL)

3. Anthony Rendon, WSH (@ ATL)

4. Joey Votto, CIN (vs. CHC)

5. Carlos Correa, HOU (vs. BAL)

6. Anthony Rizzo, CHC (@ CIN)

7. J.D. Martinez, BOS (@ MIA)

8. Josh Donaldson, TOR (vs. CWS)

9. Matt Davidson, CWS (@ TOR)

10. Brian Dozier, MIN (@ PIT)

11. Jose Abreu, CWS (@ TOR)

12. Kris Bryant, CHC (@ CIN)

13. Freddie Freeman, ATL (vs. WSH)

14. Nolan Arenado, COL (@ SD)

15. Mike Moustakas, KC (@ DET)

16. Justin Smoak, TOR (vs. CWS)

17. Yoan Moncada, CWS (@ TOR)

18. Cody Bellinger, LAD (@ ARI)

19. Matt Carpenter, STL (@ MIL)

20. Khris Davis, OAK (vs. TEX)

Seven games have an over/under of nine total runs on Monday. Finding batters shouldn’t be a problem. Gauging from this list of infielders, that position should be the easiest to fill.

One name that is extremely low on the DRAFT app list, that shouldn’t be, is J.D. Martinez. He’s likely batting third in a lineup that is projected to score 4.9 runs (fourth-most in the slate). Last year, Martinez compiled a .351 ISO against right-handed hitters.

Speaking of projected run totals, Houston owns the top spots with a 5.8 implied run total. That’s why you’ll see two Astros in the top five of the rankings. Altuve has scored at least 18 DRAFT fantasy points in back-to-back games. Correa has scored at least 21 fantasy points in back-to-back games.

Outfielders

1. Mike Trout, LAA (vs. CLE)

2. Ian Happ, CHC (@ CIN)

2. A.J. Pollock, ARI (vs. LAD)

3. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (@ NYM)

4. George Springer, HOU (vs. BAL)

5. Bryce Harper, WSH (@ ATL)

6. Charlie Blackmon, COL (@ SD)

7. Tommy Pham, STL (@ MIL)

8. Yoenis Cespedes, NYM (@ PHI)

9. Dexter Fowler, STL (@ MIL)

10. Curtis Granderson, TOR (vs. CWS)

11. Kyle Schwarber, CHC (@ CIN)

12. Mookie Betts, BOS (@ MIA)

13. Marcell Ozuna, STL (@ MIL)

14. Wil Myers, SD (vs. COL)

15. Matt Joyce, OAK (vs. TEX)

16. Nick Castellanos, DET (vs. KC)

17. Adam Eaton, WSH (@ ATL)

18. Chris Taylor, LAD (@ ARI)

19. Christian Yelich, MIL (vs. STL)

20. Yasiel Puig, LAD (@ ARI)

The outfield spots will be a little trickier to choose on Monday. Mike Trout will likely be the top option, although he’s the seventh option in the app. Trout has scored at least 13 points in three straight games.

Hoskins is living up to the hype in 2018. He notched 23 and 17 fantasy points in each of the first two games. Hoskins and the Phillies get Matt Harvey on Monday. Harvey had a 6.15 ERA in 41 innings at home last season.

Yelich had a monster game on Sunday: 5-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored (28 fantasy points). He’ll look to continue that momentum against Miles Mikolas and the Cardinals. The Brewers have an implied run total of 4.7 runs (sixth-most).
