DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (4/23)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (4/23)

We have nine games to look forward to on Monday and DRAFT includes them all in their main slate (6:40 PM first pitch). They also have a significantly smaller two-game slate with a 10:10 PM first pitch.

Of those nine games on the all-day ticket, five matchups have been dubbed with an over/under of nine total runs, or more. Coors Field leads the way with 11 projected total runs for Monday. We also have three teams listed as heavy favorites, according to Vegas: Indians (-220), Yankees (-205), and Astros (-190).

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Carlos Carrasco, CLE (@ BAL)

2. Gerrit Cole, HOU (vs. LAA)

3. Masahiro Tanaka, NYY (vs. MIN)

4. Trevor Cahill, OAK (@ TEX)

5. Tyler Skaggs, LAA (@ HOU)

6. Chris Stratton, SF (vs. WSH)

7. Gio Gonzalez, WSH (@ SF)

8. Mike Leake, SEA (@ CWS)

9. Chad Bettis, COL (vs. SD)

10. Mike Foltynewicz, ATL (@ CIN)

Looking at this list, you probably shouldn’t consider the 10-person draft option on Monday. I’d get nervous if I wasn’t able to snag a starting pitcher in the top three from these rankings. Tanaka isn’t even a lock as your third choice. He’s allowed six earned runs in back-to-back starts.

Fortunately, you should be fine in head-to-head contests. While I have Carrasco listed No. 1, I’d be content with either him or Cole as my SP. Both are strong favorites in the eyes of Vegas (Carrasco is -220 and Cole is -205). Carrasco gets the slight nod because Baltimore has recorded the second-most strikeouts in baseball this season.

Infielders

1. Nolan Arenado, COL (vs. SD)

2. Freddie Freeman, ATL (@ CIN)

3. Nelson Cruz, SEA (@ CWS)

4. Jed Lowrie, OAK (@ TEX)

5. Carlos Correa, HOU (vs. LAA)

6. Didi Gregorius, NYY (vs. MIN)

7. Manny Machado, BAL (vs. CLE)

8. Jose Altuve, HOU (vs. LAA)

9. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (vs. MIN)

10. Jose Ramirez, CLE (@ BAL)

11. Francisco Lindor, CLE (@ BAL)

12. Eric Hosmer, SD (@ COL)

13. DJ LeMahieu, COL (vs. SD)

14. Gary Sanchez, NYY (vs. MIN)

15. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (@ BAL)

16. Trea Turner, WSH (@ SF)

17. Matt Chapman, OAK (@ TEX)

18. Adrian Beltre, TEX (vs. OAK)

19. Alex Bregman, HOU (vs. LAA)

20. Robinson Cano, SEA (@ CWS)

Gregorius is playing out of his mind right now. This season, he’s crushed six home runs, seven doubles, and one triple. At home, Gregorius is batting a phenomenal .417 (15-of-36), with all six home runs, this year. Righty, Jake Odorizzi, takes the hill against the Yankees on Monday. Gregorius has a .251 ISO against righties over the past two seasons.

Don’t look now, but Ramirez is starting to catch fire, too. He’s homered three times in the past two games and has a combined five hits during that span. From Monday’s slate of starting pitchers, Kevin Gausman has the third-highest HR/9 ratio over the past two seasons.

Outfielders

1. Charlie Blackmon, COL (vs. SD)

2. Aaron Judge, NYY (vs. MIN)

3. George Springer, HOU (vs. LAA)

4. Bryce Harper, WSH (@ SF)

5. Mike Trout, LAA (@ HOU)

6. Wil Myers, SD (@ COL)

7. Khris Davis, OAK (@ TEX)

8. Manny Margot, SD (@ COL)

9. Andrew McCutchen, SF (vs. WSH)

10. Jose Pirela, SD (@ COL)

11. Dee Gordon, SEA (@ CWS)

12. Justin Upton, LAA (@ HOU)

13. Chris Taylor, LAD (vs. MIA)

14. Lewis Brinson, MIA (@ LAD)

15. Brett Gardner, NYY (vs. MIN)

16. Nomar Mazara, TEX (vs. OAK)

17. David Dahl, COL (vs. SD)

18. Mitch Haniger, SEA (@ CWS)

19. Ender Inciarte, ATL (@ CIN)

20. Yasiel Puig, LAD (vs. MIA)

Blackmon, Judge, Springer, Harper, with Trout on the fringe? Can’t go wrong with that group in your head-to-head contests. I give the nod to Blackmon in that group. He leads the way with a .306 ISO against righties in the past two seasons and Blackmon’s game is the only one with an 11 over/under.

In your three-person draft, Myers and/or Davis could make the cut. Myers is also involved in the matchup at Coors Field. He’s also had success against Rockies starter Chad Bettis. In his career, Myers is 8-for-16 (.500) with six extra-base hits (two home runs) against Bettis. Myers also has a career .330 AVG in Colorado with eight home runs in 25 games.
