DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (4/9)

There are 13 total games on Monday are there are three blocks to enter on DRAFT. First, the entire 13-game slate can be played before 2:10 pm. After that, an 11-game slate is available for 6:10 pm. Finally, a two-game option is set for 8:40 pm.

As for the player pool, we are graced with aces and explosive bats. Before you enter the DRAFT war room, preset your rankings to better prepare yourself. Here’s my list of rankings, with advice on some positions.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Max Scherzer, WSH (vs. ATL)

2. Noah Syndergaard, NYM (@ MIA)

3. Corey Kluber, CLE (vs. DET)

4. Justin Verlander, HOU (@ MIN)

5. Miles Mikolas, STL (vs. MIL)

6. Felix Hernandez, SEA (@ KC)

7. Chris Archer, TB (@ CWS)

8. Tyler Chatwood, CHC (vs. PIT)

9. Zack Godley, ARI (@ SF)

10. Jakob Junis, KC (vs. SEA)

There is a clear, definitive gap between the two pitching tiers on Monday. We have aces like Mad Max, Thor, Klubot, and JV on the hill. All are strong favorites in the eyes of Vegas and all have over/unders below nine total runs.

Last season, Scherzer and Kluber were No. 3 and 4 in the K/9 standings. This season, Syndergaard is the current leader in the clubhouse with a remarkable 15.3 K/9. Verlander’s 10.8 K/9 thus far isn’t terrible, either.

If worse comes to worst and your contest is larger than four, causing you to miss the top four in the rankings, Mikolas would be next on my list. He already faced the Brewers in his first start of 2018. Though Mikolas allowed four earned runs and three home runs in the previous meeting, he also struck out five and walked none. Mikolas’ home ballpark is better for pitchers, as opposed to Milwaukee, too.

Infielders

1. Nolan Arenado, COL (vs. SD)

2. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (@ SF)

3. Jose Altuve, HOU (@ MIN)

4. Carlos Correa, HOU (@ MIN)

5. Trevor Story, COL (vs. SD)

6. Kris Bryant, CHC (vs. PIT)

7. Trea Turner, WSH (vs. ATL)

8. Francisco Lindor, CLE (vs. DET)

9. Manny Machado, BAL (vs. TOR)

10. DJ LeMahieu, COL (vs. SD)

11. Jose Ramirez, CLE (vs. DET)

12. Jonathan Schoop, BAL (vs. TOR)

13. Joey Gallo, TEX (vs. LAA)

14. Matt Carpenter, STL (vs. MIL)

15. Shin-Soo Choo, TEX (vs. LAA)

16. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (vs. DET)

17. Adrian Beltre, TEX (vs. LAA)

18. Josh Harrison, PIT (@ CHC)

19. Lucas Duda, KC (vs. SEA)

20. Miguel Cabrera, DET (@ CLE)

Arenado and Goldschmidt are at the top of the infield rankings due to their proficiency against left-handed pitchers. Arenado produced a .420 ISO against southpaws in 2017. He gets the push to No. 1 with the advantage of playing in Coors Field. Vegas supports this by dubbing SD/COL with an over/under of 10. No other game on the Monday slate has an over/under of nine total runs, or greater.

Speaking of the Coors Field bump, you must include Story and LeMahieu to your DRAFT rankings, too. Story has homered in two of the past three games and compiled a .353 ISO against lefties last season. As for LeMahieu, he received the leadoff role when Charlie Blackmon missed Sunday’s game with back spasms. If Blackmon continues to miss time, LeMahieu could continue to benefit from the boost to the lineup spot.

In deeper contests, consider Choo. This season, he’s batting .314 with three home runs. In 2017, Choo had a .190 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

Outfielders

1. Bryce Harper, WSH (vs. ATL)

2. Mike Trout, LAA (@ TEX)

3. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (vs. CIN)

4. Justin Upton, LAA (@ TEX)

5. Marcell Ozuna, STL (vs. MIL)

6. George Springer, HOU (@ MIN)

7. Ian Happ, CHC (vs. PIT)

8. Ian Desmond, COL (vs. SD)

9. Yoenis Cespedes, NYM (@ MIA)

10. Tommy Pham, STL (vs. MIL)

11. Kyle Schwarber, CHC (vs. PIT)

12. Nomar Mazara, TEX (vs. LAA)

13. Jay Bruce, NYM (@ MIA)

14. Dexter Fowler, STL (vs. MIL)

15. Dee Gordon, SEA (@ KC)

16. Jose Pirela, SD (@ COL)

17. Lorenzo Cain, MIL (@ STL)

18. Aaron Altherr, PHI (vs. CIN)

19. Kole Calhoun, LAA (@ TEX)

20. Adam Eaton, WSH (vs. ATL)

When Julio Teheran is on the hill, Harper is happy. In his career, Harper is 18-for-39 (.462) with 11 extra-base hits, including eight home runs, against Teheran. Harper is on fire in 2018. He’s hit six home runs and has only struck out five times.

Philadelphia has scored 28 runs in the past three games. They are now 10th in MLB with 39 runs scored. The Phillies face lefty Cody Reed on Monday. Hoskins posted a .439 ISO against southpaws in 2017. In deeper contests, Altherr is the play. He produced a .266 ISO against left-handed pitchers last season.
