DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (5/14)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (5/14)

We have nine games on the ticket for Monday’s DRAFT player pool. However, one matchup begins at 2:20pm (EST), so I will choose to ignore that game from my rankings. If you really want to include players from the ATL/CHC game, I would recommend Kyle Schwarber, Ozzie Albies, Freddie Freeman, and Kris Bryant (in that order).

As for the games I actually included in my rankings, there are three matchups with an over/under of at least nine total runs. Also, there is only one team who is listed as a heavy favorite, according to Vegas (Cleveland is -215).

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

I think we have an easy decision when it comes to the first-overall pick in your DRAFT contests on Monday. I’m going with Carrasco. He has recently dominated Detroit. Last year, Carrasco went 4-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 45 strikeouts ins 39.2 innings. This season, he already pitched a complete game against the Tigers (1 ER, 6 K) on April 11th. Carrasco has also been cruising in road starts. He’s 3-0 with a 2.48 ERA and 32 punch outs in 29 innings of action.

If you are not fortunate enough to select Carrasco, Corbin can be a decent consolation price in your head-to-head contests. He’s allowed two earned runs, or less, in four of the last five games and has tallied at least seven strikeouts in seven of eight starts this season. The Brewers are 29th in team wOBA (.281) against left-handed pitchers and have scored 153 runs in 40 games this year (26th in MLB).

5. Jose Altuve, HOU (@ LAA)

6. Trevor Story, COL (@ SD)

7. Carlos Correa, HOU (@ LAA)

8. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (@ DET)

9. Joey Votto, CIN (@ SF)

10. Brian Dozier, MIN (vs. SEA)

11. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (vs. MIL)

12. Whit Merrifield, KC (vs. TB)

13. Eduardo Escobar, MIN (vs. SEA)

14. Khris Davis, OAK (@ BOS)

15. Eugenio Suarez, CIN (@ SF)

16. Mitch Moreland, BOS (vs. OAK)

17. Mike Moustakas, KC (vs. TB)

18. Nelson Cruz, SEA (@ MIN)

19. Ryan Braun, MIL (@ ARI)

20. Daniel Robertson, TB (@ KC)

I just want to get this out of the way right now: I am no “homer” when it comes to DFS and winning money. Yes, I’m a Cleveland Indians fan and, yes, I have Lindor and Ramirez in the top three for infielder rankings, but they deserve to be in those spots. Lindor currently has a 14-game hitting streak and is batting .500 (10-for-20) with four doubles and four home runs in the past week. In four of the past five games, Lindor has tallied at least two hits.

As for Ramirez, he’s only batting .200 (4-for-20) in the past week, but three of those hits went for extra-bases (two home runs). Also, Ramirez leads Cleveland with a .282 ISO against right-handed pitchers since 2017. In his career, J-Ram is 4-for-11 (.364) against Mike Fiers, too.

Outfielders

1. Mookie Betts, BOS (vs. OAK)

2. Mike Trout, LAA (vs. HOU)

3. Charlie Blackmon, COL (@ SD)

4. A.J. Pollock, ARI (vs. MIL)

5. George Springer, HOU (@ LAA)

6. Eddie Rosario, MIN (vs. SEA)

7. Andrew Benintendi, BOS (vs. OAK)

8. Dee Gordon, SEA (@ MIN)

9. Justin Upton, LAA (vs. HOU)

10. Michael Brantley, CLE (@ DET)

11. Denard Span, TB (@ KC)

12. Jorge Soler, KC (vs. TB)

13. Mitch Haniger, SEA (@ MIN)

14. Lorenzo Cain, MIL (@ ARI)

15. Nick Castellanos, DET (vs. CLE)

16. David Dahl, COL (@ SD)

17. Christian Yelich, MIL (@ ARI)

18. David Peralta, ARI (vs. MIL)

19. Steven Souza Jr., ARI (vs. MIL)

20. Domingo Santana, MIL (@ ARI)

I’m always surprised when Betts becomes available in my DRAFT drafts. He’s consistently the first batter I choose and he always delivers (except for when injuries occur). Betts is not only a threat to hit the long ball (tied for the MLB lead with 13 home runs), but he also can swipe a bag or two (four stolen bases in the past four games). Betts is also 4-for-11 (.364) with two home runs against Sean Manaea.

Another hot hitter is Upton. He’s 10-for-26 (.385) with four home runs in the past week. He’s also delivered at least one RBI in seven of the past eight games. Upton is batting .273 with six doubles and nine home runs against righties this season. His .239 ISO against right-handed pitchers is second to only Mike Trout (.349) on the Angels.
