It’s another Friday night in which Max Scherzer is toeing the rubber. It’s feeling like I’m lucking into him on a weekly basis when writing this piece, and I’m once again going to the well to tout him. He is joined, however, by a solid pivot who opens up some salary for an extra big bat or two. A middle-tier arm is my preferred GPP SP2, but a bargain hurler also has a strong case for usage and makes the cut as well. The hitters are basically a bargain bin of options to free up salary for Mad Max and Co., but they’re not lacking for upside despite their bargain salaries. Having said that, one big bopper was too good to pass up even at his $5,000 salary, and he’s my top hitting target tonight.

Max Scherzer (WAS): $14,000 @ Marlins
What is there left to say that I haven’t previously said about Scherzer? He’s punched out 11 or more batters in three straight games, allowed no more than two earned runs in any of his 10 starts, and he’s bested 26 fantasy points in all but one turn. He’s on another planet, and he’s facing the punching-bag Marlins tonight. Miami ranks 28th in wRC+ (76) against right-handed batters while tying for the 10th highest strikeout rate (24.1% K%) against them this year, according to FanGraphs. The Marlins have the lowest team over/under of the night at 2.5 runs, per Pinnacle, and the moneyline is -257 favoring the visiting Nationals. The sky’s the limit for Mad Max tonight, and there are plenty of places to save salary in order to accommodate his $14,000 commitment.
