Cole Hamels (TEX): $10,800 @ CWS
Although on most nights Cole Hamels won’t be the highest priced pitcher, there is a reason to pay up for the savvy veteran tonight. Compared to the field, Hamels is one of the more reliable pitchers starting tonight and is in a great matchup in Chicago. With a 27.1% strikeout rate, Hamels has increased his K rate from 17.1% in 2017. This is likely due to his increase in usage of his cutter and decrease of his four-seam. With more movement, the Rangers ace has increased his swinging strike rate from 9.7% (2017) to 12.0% (2018). The White Sox have struggled to hit lefties all season long. Ranked in the bottom five in all hitting stats against southpaws, Chicago is also ranked first in strikeout percentage at 27.3%. The price tag is tough to swallow on Hamels, but he is the top pitcher tonight.
