DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (5/28)

Welcome to Monday’s DraftKings value plays. I’d like to thank all of you who’ve served and hope you all enjoy a safe and happy Memorial Day! It’s been a while, so I’ll go nuts and cover all of today’s games. That’s right, no matter what slate you’re playing, I’m ready to fire up the DFS grill and throw some value plays down. There is so much baseball on tap for the holiday, including a game in Colorado, so let’s not delay.

Pitcher

Marco Gonzales (SEA): $6,900 vs. TEX
Gonzales is the definition of value. I love using him against a Rangers team striking out 28.2% of the time against righties this month. There is a lot of swing-and-miss in that lineup and the fact that this game is at Safeco gives me reassurance to put Gonzales, the (-167) favorite in my lineup.

Max Fried (ATL): $4,000 vs. NYM (GPP Special)
If you want a lot of big bats, perhaps the $4,000 home dog “punt” play could pay off big as the Mets are second to last in ISO, wOBA and wRC+ against southpaws in the last month. In fact, they’ve been awful against lefties all year. This really isn’t a daring play at all. In fact, it’s kind of smart.

Other Notables

Catcher

Alex Avila (ARI): $2,600 vs. CIN
Both cheap catchers I like today will run you $2,600. Both have nice batted ball speed and distance the last couple weeks in addition to increased hard hit rates and platoon splits advantages, but Avila also gets the luxury of facing the gas can known as Homer Bailey the Reds shoddy bullpen to boot.

Other Notables

First Base

Mark Reynolds (WAS): $3,800 vs. TEAM (also 3B eligible)
All Reynolds has done since getting in a Nats uniform is smash the baseball. He’s on a nice hot streak and the batted ball metrics are all tasty. The exit velocity, the hard-hit rate, and the flyball rate are up. I believe in hot streaks more than I believe I’m writing about Reynolds…again…in 2018.

Other Notables

Second Base

Daniel Descalso (ARI): $3,300 vs. CIN (also 3B eligible)
You’ve seen Descalso show up here in the past for his platoon splits alone. He’s likely to bat cleanup against Homer Bailey and that’s great news considering he’s sporting elevated batted ball distance and spiked flyball rates the past couple weeks. Make sure to include him in your D-Backs stack.

Other Notables

Third Base

Jeimer Candelario (DET): $3,800 vs. LAA
Before going landing on the disabled list with a sore wrist, Candy was raking. When he came back, I had concerns that he would lose some pop. Those concerns were washed on Saturday when he went deep twice. His average batted ball distance, hard hit rate and flyball rate are all up…all systems go!

Other Notables

I listed three third base eligible plays above (Reynolds; Descalso; Cozart) and one below. That’s a tease. Don’t be afraid to use more than one.

Shortstop

Didi Gregorius (NYY): $3,900 vs. HOU
Didi still has the power to make a bad matchup against Justin Verlander a nice one-off play. It only takes one swing to pay off his salary even when Yankees bats are likely to be highly owned. They’re a potent offense no matter what the implied run total says. Speaking of high run totals…

Other Notables

Outfield

Gorkys Hernandez (SF): $3,800 @ COL
His teammate is listed above to try to get some Coors exposure. With four homers in the last two weeks and riding a modest eight-game hit streak, Hernandez is raking! What a fantastic combo to use in all formats, a hot hitter with increased flyball rate and batted ball data going into Coors Field.

Jose Bautista (NYM): $3,300 @ ATL (also 3B eligible)
Joey Bats started at Triple-A before getting the call to the Braves, eventually being cut loose a week ago. The revenge game narrative is in play. Even though he played a short stint with ATL, the recency of being cut could boost his game up just like his flyball, hard hit rate and exit velocity of late.

Matt Kemp (LAA): $3,500 vs. PHI
So far this season, Matt Kemp has been the best hitter on the Dodgers roster. What the heck? Is this 2011? No, you probably didn’t play DFS in 2011. I did, but most of you didn’t. He should continue to hit cleanup as long as he’s putting up absurd batted ball data with spiked flyball and hard hit rates.
