DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (6/22)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (6/22)

Every team plays on Friday, but because of the OAK/CWS doubleheader (game PPD on Thursday), both matchups are removed from DRAFT. Instead, we have two choices when it comes to DRAFT contests: 14 games (7:05 pm start) and two games (10:07 pm start).

Six games have over/unders with at least nine total runs. Naturally, MIA/COL leads the way with 11.5 total runs. The Rockies are strong favorites (-200), so expect to see more of their bats higher in the rankings. Speaking of heavy odds, four teams were given -190 odds, or stronger (including the Rockies): Braves, Indians, and Astros.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

10. Luis Castillo, CIN (vs. CHC)

I would not call any pitchers on Friday’s slate “elite” or “top tier” by any means. Corbin is listed as my No. 1 pitcher, but it isn’t by a wide margin. On the bright side, Corbin has struck out at least seven batters in four of the past five outings. However, he’s also allowed at least five earned runs in three of the last four appearances.

Pitchers one through seven on this list could be shuffled around based on preference, weather, and opposing lineups on Friday. Keuchel’s Astros are the largest favorites on the board (-320), according to Vegas. Keuchel’s last outing was also against these same Royals: 6 IP, 0 ER (2 R), and 5 K. That’s significant because Kansas City hardly Ks. They are 30th in the league in team strikeouts (530). They’re also 28th in runs scored (268) and 29th in team wOBA (.290) against left-handed pitchers.

9. Alex Bregman, HOU (vs. KC)

10. Eric Thames, MIL (vs. STL)

11. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (@ TB)

12. Eugenio Suarez, CIN (vs. CHC)

13. Carlos Correa, HOU (vs. KC)

14. Ozzie Albies, ATL (vs. BAL)

15. Kris Bryant, CHC (@ CIN)

16. DJ LeMahieu, COL (vs. MIA)

17. Manny Machado, BAL (@ ATL)

18. Anthony Rizzo, CHC (@ CIN)

19. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (vs. DET)

20. Shin-Soo Choo, TEX (@ MIN)

Lefty pitcher on the hill? Check. Coors Field? Check. Arenado in our lineup? Absolutely. In the past week, Arenado is 10-for-25 (.400) with four doubles and three home runs. Speaking of home runs, he’s gone yard in three straight games. Arenado has also compiled multiple hits in four of the past five games.

Behind the Rockies, and their ridiculous seven implied run total, is Cleveland (5.7 projected runs). In the past week, Ramirez is 6-for-23 (.261) with three home runs (seven walks). In his career, Ramirez is 6-for-16 (.375) with one double and one home run against Mike Fiers.

Outfielders

1. Mike Trout, LAA (vs. TOR)

2. Mookie Betts, BOS (vs. SEA)

3. Charlie Blackmon, COL (vs. MIA)

4. Aaron Judge, NYY (@ TB)

5. Andrew Benintendi, BOS (vs. SEA)

6. Bryce Harper, WSH (vs. PHI)

7. George Springer, HOU (vs. KC)

8. Odubel Herrera, PHI (@ WSH)

9. Andrew McCutchen, SF (vs. SD)

10. Michael Brantley, CLE (vs. DET)

11. Christian Yelich, MIL (vs. STL)

12. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (@ WSH)

13. Brian Anderson, MIA (@ COL)

14. Mitch Haniger, SEA (@ BOS)

15. Justin Upton, LAA (vs. TOR)

16. Teoscar Hernandez, TOR (@ LAA)

17. Nomar Mazara, TEX (@ MIN)

18. Kyle Schwarber, CHC (vs. CIN)

19. Carlos Gonzalez, COL (vs. MIA)

20. Tommy Pham, STL (@ MIL)

Again, with Colorado leading the way at seven implied runs on Friday, getting Rockies into your lineup should be a priority. Blackmon isn’t amazing against lefties, but he isn’t terrible, either. This season, he’s batting .324 against southpaws (.257 AVG against righties). Blackmon has also tallied multiple hits in two of the past three games.

Cracking the top ten for the first time this season is Herrera. He’s hit a remarkable five home runs (.423 AVG) in the past week. Herrera has also homered in four straight games (five of the past six. To make matters worse for Tanner Roark, Herrera is 13-for-31 (.419) with five extra-base hits in his career against him.
