DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (6/4)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (6/4)

For the first time since I’ve been writing these baseball DRAFT DFS posts for 2018, we can’t create rankings for 10 pitchers. There are only two four-game slates on DRAFT (NYY/DET play a doubleheader) and a three-game slate (10:07 pm EST).

DRAFT can only allow a six-person contest as their max for a draft. So, in order to adapt, I’ll only produce rankings for the top six pitchers, 12 infielders, and 12 outfielders.

Only two games have an over/under of at least nine total runs and the Yankees are involved in both. They are the strong favorites (-210 and -200) and should be stacked in either contest you decide to enter.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Luis Severino, NYY (@ DET)

2. Zack Godley, ARI (@ SF)

3. Domingo German, NYY (@ DET)

4. Clayton Richard, SD (vs. ATL)

5. Nick Tropeano, LAA (vs. KC)

6. Danny Duffy, KC (@ LAA)

Do you feel lucky? I’m issuing operation “Dream Team” for Monday’s minuscule slate. Meaning, I likely won’t join a draft on DRAFT but, instead, join the Dream Team contests. I don’t want to run the risk of not getting Severino (for the early four-game slate) or Godley (for the late four-game slate).

Severino is the strongest starting pitcher for the entire day. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in nine consecutive starts and has struck out at least seven batters in six of those contests. The only downside is that the Yankees are on the road. Severino has a 3.03 ERA in 32.2 innings away from Yankee Stadium (1.79 ERA in 45.1 innings at home).

For the late slate, Godley is the guy. He’s allowed two earned runs or less in two of the last three starts and has tallied at least six strikeouts in three of the past four appearances. Godley also faced the Giants on April 9th this year: 7 IP, 0 ER, and 9 K. San Francisco has the third-most team strikeouts this season (548).

Infielders

1. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (@ DET)

2. Greg Bird, NYY (@ DET)

3. Gleyber Torres, NYY (@ DET)

4. Gary Sanchez, NYY (@ DET)

5. Didi Gregorius, NYY (@ DET)

6. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (@ SF)

7. Freddie Freeman, ATL (@ SD)

8. Ozzie Albies, ATL (@ SD)

9. Ian Kinsler, LAA (vs. KC)

10. Nick Ahmed, ARI (@ SF)

11. Miguel Andujar, NYY (@ DET)

12. Johan Camargo, ATL (@ SD)

My first five infielders are all Yankees. And, yes, this applies to both the early and late slates, as New York has a doubleheader against the Tigers. The Yankees have an implied run total of 5.6 for the late game and 5.4 for the early matchup.

Bird is batting third in the first game. He has a .217 ISO against right-handed pitchers since 2017. Bird has notched at least one extra-base hit in four consecutive games (two doubles, one triple, and one home run).

Gregorius has had a roller coaster of a 2018 campaign. His April consisted of 10 home runs and a .330 AVG. Then, he hit a rough patch in May. Gregorius gathered a .151 AVG and hit only one home run. Now, he may be homerless in June, but Gregorius is batting .333. He’s also 8-for-22 (.364) in the past week.

Outfielders

1. Aaron Judge, NYY (@ DET)

2. Mike Trout, LAA (vs. KC)

3. Aaron Hicks, NYY (@ DET)

4. Justin Upton, LAA (vs. KC)

5. Franmil Reyes, SD (vs. ATL)

6. David Peralta, ARI (@ SF)

7. Leonys Martin, DET (vs. NYY)

8. Hunter Renfroe, SD (vs. ATL)

9. Ender Inciarte, ATL (@ SD)

10. Nick Markakis, ATL (@ SD)

11. Nick Castellanos, DET (vs. NYY)

12. Jorge Soler, KC (@ LAA)

After gathering the outfield rankings for Monday, it makes an even stronger case for a Dream Team contest. When you get past No. 5 on the list, you’re really rolling the dice. Judge leads the list and he also leads the Yankees with a .353 ISO against right-handed pitchers since 2017. He’s compiled four extra-base hits in the past four games (six total hits).

Outside of Reyes, it’s tough sledding. Reyes isn’t a top-tier outfielder, like the 1-4 group, but he’s batting .333 (7-for-21) with three home runs in the past week. If you dare to enter a three-person draft, Reyes could be a serviceable option for your outfield platoon.
