DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (6/6)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (6/6)

We go from a minuscule slate on Monday to a packed one on Wednesday (I post here on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). DRAFT offers three choices when it comes to player pool groups: 15 games (1:05 pm start), 12 games (3:40 pm start), and 10 games (7:05 pm start).

As I write this, four games have over/unders of at least nine total runs. We’re still waiting for odds in matchups between ATL/SD, PHI/CHC, and TB/WSH. Five teams are favored with odds of at least -190. While all five will have their starting pitcher listed in my rankings on Wednesday, there is a distinct level between tiers. We’ll get to that now.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Shohei Ohtani, LAA (vs. KC)

2. Carlos Carrasco, CLE (vs. MIL)

3. Lance McCullers Jr., HOU (vs. SEA)

4. Jose Quintana, CHC (vs. PHI)

5. Jon Gray, COL (@ CIN)

6. Aaron Nola, PHI (@ CHC)

7. Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS (vs. DET)

8. Mike Foltynewicz, ATL (@ SD)

9. Tanner Roark, WSH (vs. TB)

10. Jack Flaherty, STL (vs. MIA)

Ohtani checks all the boxes you look for in a starting pitcher on DRAFT. He gets strikeouts (at least six punch outs in four of the past five games), he doesn’t allow many runs (only two earned runs, or less, in four straight games), and Vegas loves him (the Angels are -260 favorites). The Royals are also 23rd in team wOBA (.307) against right-handed pitchers.

Carrasco doesn’t have the highest K/9 from Wednesday’s group of pitchers, but strikeouts are only a portion of the formula (granted, a large portion) when determining you SP on DRAFT. Matchup, Vegas odds, and familiarity also play roles in the decision-making process. Carrasco is facing a Milwaukee team who is ninth in team strikeouts (521) this season. The Indians are strong favorites going into their game against the Brewers (-190). Carrasco has also faced the Brew Crew earlier this year (May 9th): 9 IP, 2 ER, and 14 K.

Infielders

1. J.D. Martinez, BOS (vs. DET)

2. Brian Dozier, MIN (vs. CWS)

3. Khris Davis, OAK (@ TEX)

4. Matt Olson, OAK (@ TEX)

5. Nolan Arenado, COL (@ CIN)

6. Jose Ramirez, CLE (vs. MIL)

7. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (@ TOR)

8. Francisco Lindor, CLE (vs. MIL)

9. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (vs. MIL)

10. Greg Bird, NYY (@ TOR)

11. Jose Martinez, STL (vs. MIA)

12. Scooter Gennett, CIN (vs. COL)

13. Shin-Soo Choo, TEX (vs. OAK)

14. Anthony Rizzo, CHC (vs. PHI)

15. Gary Sanchez, NYY (@ TOR)

16. Eric Hosmer, SD (vs. ATL)

17. Miguel Sano, MIN (vs. CWS)

18. Xander Bogaerts, BOS (vs. DET)

19. Jose Altuve, HOU (vs. SEA)

20. Freddie Freeman, ATL (@ SD)

Boston leads the slate with a 5.7 implied run total. So, naturally, a Boston bat tops our infielder rankings. Be aware that Martinez is dealing with back spasms. However, he still managed to go 2-for-4 with a home run on Tuesday. In the past week, he’s 6-for-22 (.273) with three home runs and even a stolen base.

We have two Athletics in the top four on Wednesday. Olson is having the better week. He’s 9-for-23 (.391) with four home runs and 11 RBI. Oakland is projected to score the second-most runs in the slate (5.4 implied run total).

Outfielders

1. Mike Trout, LAA (vs. KC)

2. Aaron Judge, NYY (@ TOR)

3. Andrew Benintendi, BOS (vs. DET)

4. Eddie Rosario, MIN (vs. CWS)

5. Michael Brantley, CLE (vs. MIL)

6. George Springer, HOU (vs. SEA)

7. Austin Meadows, PIT (vs. LAD)

8. Justin Upton, LAA (vs. KC)

9. Tommy Pham, STL (vs. MIA)

10. Charlie Blackmon, COL (@ CIN)

11. Brett Gardner, NYY (@ TOR)

12. Brandon Nimmo, NYM (vs. BAL)

13. Nomar Mazara, TEX (vs. OAK)

14. Ian Happ, CHC (vs. PHI

15. Dustin Fowler, OAK (@ TEX)

16. Bryce Harper, WSH (@ TOR)

17. Joey Gallo, TEX (vs. OAK)

18. Marcell Ozuna, STL (vs. MIA)

19. Kyle Schwarber, CHC (vs. PHI)

20. Matt Joyce, OAK (@ TEX)

While Trout has only hit one home run in the past week, he’s batting .407 (11-for-27) with four RBI and a stolen base. Even though the Angels are only projected to score 4.9 runs (eighth-most), Trout is always a threat to produce an impressive stat line.

One surprise addition to our top four is Rosario. He’s also having a monster week. Like Trout, Rosario is 11-for-27 (.407), but he’s notched four home runs with eight RBI. Minnesota is tied for third in the implied run total category for Wednesday (5.2).
