DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (6/30)

DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (6/30)

The last featured slate of June is here on DraftKings and it gives us seven games to assemble our lineups. There are some high temperatures across the country and when the weather heats up, so do the bats. There should be some solid offense out there today. On the bump, I’ll be targeting the two top pitchers on the slate and that’s fairly costly. Luckily there is not only some good value out there, but also some plays that offer us more roster flexibility to allow us access to these quality arms. That’s what we’ll be digging into today so grab a shovel and let’s go!

Pitcher

Bartolo Colon (TEX): $5,100 vs. CHW

Colon (-121) is super cheap and favored at home. I’m playing one of the two top arms with Big Sexy and not looking anywhere else for salary relief on the pitching side. He’s still doing his thing and there’s no reason to think he won’t keep rolling today with a nice matchup. Since the calendar flipped to June, no team has struck out more against righties (nearly 28%) and the White Sox are in the bottom five in team ISO, wOBA, and wRC+ this month.

Catcher

Sandy Leon (BOS): $2,900 @ NYY

The switch-hitting catcher is firmly in play today in another great hitters park and he’s very affordable. The BoSox are favored in this spot and projected to score over 4.5 runs today. Getting some exposure on the back end on the cheap is not a bad idea against Sonny Gray who has seen an uptick in his hard contact rate in his last few starts. Meanwhile, Leon is posting higher hard hit rates and exit velocities over that same span.

Other Notables

Elias Diaz (PIT): $3,300 @ TEAM

First Base

Lucas Duda (KCR): $3,600 @ SEA

Stacking against “King” Felix has been fairly profitable all season. While I wouldn’t go quite that far today, both teams in this game offer nice 1B values today and the Duda abides. He was activated from the disabled list last week and went deep in his second game back. Since his return, his batted ball metrics are very power friendly with spiked exit velocities, batted ball distances, hard hit and flyball rates. He’s a solid threat to go yard tonight.

Other Notables

Ryon Healy (SEA): $3,800 vs. KC

Second Base

Rougned Odor (TEX): $3,700 vs. CHW

Odor was absolutely miserable to start 2018, I think the only reason he didn’t get sent to AAA is because we all know he can throw a mean punch and it’s best to stay on his good side. Seriously though, he was bad. Not so much in the last two weeks where he’s snapped out of his funk by getting hits in nine of his last ten, including three HRs and three multi-hit efforts. His hard hit and flyball rates are up and so are his exit velocities. He’s back.

Other Notables

Jedd Gyorko (STL): $3,400 vs. ATL (also 3B eligible)

Third Base

Justin Turner (LAD): $3,700 vs. COL

Instead of talking about another Rangers player, I figured I’d switch it up a bit as you know if Adrian Beltre is under $4,000, I’d recommend him. As for Turner, he’s had three homers and three multi-hit efforts just like Odor, but his have come in a shorter span by doing so in the last week, not the last two weeks. He’s played long ball the last two nights so he’s absolutely locked in right now, he’s in play in all formats.

Other Notables

Adrian Beltre (TEX): $3,900 vs. CHW

Shortstop

Chris Taylor (LAD): $3,800 vs. COL (also OF eligible)

Taylor’s playing time has been sporadic the last couple weeks while his hard-hit rate, batted distance and exit velos remain strong. He doesn’t have much to show for it on the statistical side but that’s largely due to the inconsistent at-bats. If you’re stacking Dodgers, you can throw him in there as I like him in tournaments. However, I like Freddy Galvis as a much more affordable (and safer) play in cash games for all the reasons I like Taylor.

Other Notables

Freddy Galvis (SD): $2,900 vs. PIT

Outfield

Kansas City value OF @ SEA

Rosell Herrera $3,100 – Should bat second in tonight’s lineup and he’s a solid guy to get into your lineup if you’re playing Duda or teammate Whit Merrifield ($3,800 and also 2B eligible). You can also look to the bottom of the lineup for one of Alex Gordon or Emilio Bonifacio. Both guys are $3,200, but I only expect one of them to be in the starting lineup. None of these guys are close to must-play status, or even semi-attractive plays for that matter, but they are cheap against a pitcher who is a shell of his former self. If you need salary relief, they can help and should be low owned.

Jackie Bradley (BOS): $3,700 @ NYY

JBJ is another guy who started this season on a snail’s pace but has really heated up recently. He’s got all the batted ball matrics working in his favor recently and is another guy who has gone deep three times in the past two weeks. He’s letting his power flag fly and tonight he’ll be in Yankee Stadium where the temp should be around 90 at first pitch. It’s hot everywhere, but the wind is also expected to be blowing out today in the Bronx…get in on it.

Other Notables

Delino DeShields & Joey Gallo (TEX): $3,900 each vs. CHW (Gallo also 1B eligible)
Travis Jankowski (SD): $3,800 vs. PIT
Marcell Ozuna (STL): $3,800 vs. ATL
