DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (7/13)

It’s a full 15-game slate on Friday the 13th in the MLB. DRAFT is providing us with two slates to choose from: 7:05 pm EST (15 games) and 10:10 pm EST (three games). Four games have an over/under of at least nine total runs (it will be five, once SEA/COL line is set).

As for pitching, only two teams are heavy favorites (-200 odds, or greater): Boston and Houston. Expect to see both of those starting pitchers high in the pitcher rankings.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Noah Syndergaard, NYM (vs. WSH)

2. Madison Bumgarner, SF (vs. OAK)

3. Nathan Eovaldi, TB (@ MIN)

4. Dallas Keuchel, HOU (vs. DET)

5. Rick Porcello, BOS (vs. TOR)

6. Anibal Sanchez, ATL (vs. ARI)

7. Zack Godley, ARI (@ ATL)

8. Junior Guerra, MIL (@ PIT)

9. Jake Arrieta, PHI (@ MIA)

10. Cole Hamels, TEX (@ BAL)

If Friday the 13th doesn’t scare you, looking at the list of pitchers for our slate will. Even the top-tier arms have huge question marks by their names. Syndergaard is returning from the DL, where he hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since May 25th. On the bright side, he’s struck out at least seven batters in three straight games prior to his finger injury.

The Mad Bum seemed to be on the right track until he took a trip to Colorado. In his last outing, he allowed four earned runs in 5.1 innings of work against the Cardinals. On a positive note, the Athletics are 12th in the league in team strikeouts (801) and they have only the 18th best team ISO against left-handed pitchers this season (.313).

One of my favorite arms of the slate is Eovaldi. He’s punched out nine batters in two of the past three games and allowed zero earned runs in those contests. Also, Minnesota is 21st in the league with 391 runs in 90 games.

Infielders

1. J.D. Martinez, BOS (vs. TOR)

2. Nolan Arenado, COL (vs. SEA)

3. Francisco Lindor, CLE (vs. NYY)

4. Jose Martinez, CLE (vs. NYY)

5. Javier Baez, CHC (@ SD)

6. Jean Segura, SEA (@ COL)

7. Jesus Aguilar, MIL (@ PIT)

8. Ozzie Albies, ATL (vs. ARI)

9. Xander Bogaerts, BOS (vs. TOR)

10. Max Muncy, LAD (vs. LAA)

11. Alex Bregman, HOU (vs. DET)

12. Manny Machado, BAL (vs. TEX)

13. Freddie Freeman, ATL (vs. ARI)

14. Trevor Story, COL (vs. SEA)

15. Eugenio Suarez, CIN (@ STL)

16. Scooter Gennett, CIN (@ STL)

17. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (@ ATL)

18. Kris Bryant, CHC (@ SD)

19. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (@ CLE)

20. Jose Altuve, HOU (vs. DET)

Boston currently leads the slate with an implied run total of 5.8 on Friday (still waiting on SEA/COL odds). The Red Sox will see lefty, Ryan Borucki. Martinez leads the club, and likely the world, with a .377 ISO against left-handed pitchers since 2017. He’s also tallied at least one hit in eight straight games, with three home runs during that span.

The Brew Crew struggled against Jameson Taillon on Thursday, but Aguilar was able to continue his hot bat. He’s homered five times in the past week while maintaining a .370 AVG. This season, Aguilar is batting .302 against righties and .311 on the road. Both of those splits are in play on Friday night as his Brewers stay in Pittsburgh for Game 2 of the five-game series.

Outfielders

1. Mookie Betts, BOS (vs. TOR)

2. Mitch Haniger, SEA (@ COL)

3. Charlie Blackmon, COL (vs. SEA)

4. Mike Trout, LAA (@ LAD)

5. Aaron Judge, NYY (@ CLE)

6. Andrew Benintendi, BOS (vs. TOR)

7. Michael Brantley, CLE (vs. NYY)

8. Nelson Cruz, SEA (@ COL)

9. Starling Marte, PIT (vs. MIL)

10. Bryce Harper, WSH (@ NYM)

11. Shin-Soo Choo, TEX (@ BAL)

12. Eric Thames, MIL (@ PIT)

13. Wil Myers, SD (vs. CHC)

14. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (@ MIA)

15. George Springer, HOU (vs. DET)

16. Denard Span, SEA (@ COL)

17. Joc Pederson, LAD (vs. LAA)

18. Nicholas Castellanos, DET (@ HOU)

19. Carlos Gonzalez, COL (vs. SEA)

20. Christian Yelich, MIL (@ PIT)

Betts is a staple in the top tier of the outfield rankings, but Haniger is a new addition. He’s 5-for-15 (.333) with one double and one home run in the past week. As I mentioned earlier, we’re still waiting on the SEA/COL line, but you know nine total runs will be the minimum (I’m thinking 11 total runs for Friday). Haniger is second on the team with a .230 ISO against righties since 2017.

Even with Benintendi going oh-for on Thursday night, he’s still tied for the league-lead with 14 hits in the past week (.519 AVG). He’s tallied at least two hits in six of the last seven contests. While Benintendi is better against righties (.325 AVG against RHP and only .207 vs. LHP), I’ll continue to plug him into my DRAFT roster.
