DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (7/2)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Monday (7/2)

With the fourth of July being on a Wednesday, we don’t get the benefit of a packed slate off an extended weekend. Instead, we only have 10 games taking place on Monday. DRAFT provides three time options when deciding on your contest: 10 games (1:07 pm EST start), nine games (7:05 pm EST start), and two games (9:40 pm EST start).

Four games have an over/under of at least nine total runs (still waiting on PIT/LAD line). The SF/COL matchup leads the slate with an over/under of 10 total runs. Two teams are heavy favorites (-200, or greater), according to Vegas: Yankees and Indians.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Pitchers

1. Corey Kluber, CLE (@ KC)

2. Max Scherzer, WSH (vs. BOS)

3. Jonathan Loaisiga, NYY (vs. ATL)

4. Robbie Ray, ARI (vs. STL)

5. Nathan Eovaldi, TB (@ MIA)

6. Alex Wood, LAD (vs. PIT)

7. Luis Castillo, CIN (vs. CWS)

8. Madison Bumgarner, SF (@ COL)

9. Brent Suter, MIL (vs. MIN)

10. Carlos Martinez, STL (@ ARI)

Kluber and Scherzer battle for Monday supremacy, but I give the nod to the Indians ace in my rankings. Main reason being, Mad Max faces the highest-scoring offense in baseball. However, the Klubot did get tagged for six earned runs against the Cardinals in his last outing. He’s allowed at least four earned runs in two of the past three appearances, too. Kluber already faced the Royals this season: 1-0, zero ER, but only four strikeouts.

After the two top-tier arms, the talent level drops a tad. I have Loaisiga No. 3. Vegas lists the Yankees as -195 favorites over the Braves. Loaisiga has shutout his opponent in two of the past three performances. He’s also tallied at least six strikeouts in that same span.

Infielders

1. Jose Ramirez, CLE (@ KC)

2. Nolan Arenado, COL (vs. SF)

3. Francisco Lindor, CLE (@ KC)

4. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (vs. ATL)

5. Brandon Belt, SF (@ COL)

6. Jesus Aguilar, MIL (vs. MIN)

7. Trevor Story, COL (vs. SF)

8. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (vs. STL)

9. Eugenio Suarez, CIN (vs. CWS)

10. Scooter Gennett, CIN (vs. CWS)

11. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (@ KC)

12. Matt Carpenter, STL (@ ARI)

13. DJ LeMahieu, COL (vs. SF)

14. Didi Gregorius, NYY (vs. ATL)

15. Buster Posey, SF (@ COL)

16. Ozzie Albies, ATL (@ NYY)

17. Brian Dozier, MIN (@ MIL)

18. Jeimer Candelario, DET (@ TOR)

19. Freddie Freeman, ATL (@ NYY)

20. Ian Desmond, COL (vs. SF)

The Indians poured it on against the Athletics on Sunday, accumulating 15 runs. Ramirez contributed with two doubles and two RBI. He’s batting .357 (10-for-28) with two home runs and three stolen bases. Cleveland is projected to score 5.4 runs on Monday, which is third-most on the slate.

Speaking of slate-leading lineups, the Yankees top the charts with 5.6 implied runs. Stanton is 12-for-27 (.444) with one home run in the past week. He also owns a .274 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

Outfielders

1. Aaron Judge, NYY (vs. ATL)

2. Charlie Blackmon, COL (vs. SF)

3. Eric Thames, MIL (vs. MIN)

4. Andrew McCutchen, SF (@ COL)

5. Scott Schebler, CIN (vs. CWS)

6. Nicholas Castellanos, DET (@ TOR)

7. Teoscar Hernandez, TOR (vs. DET)

8. Mookie Betts, BOS (@ WSH)

9. Aaron Hicks, NYY (vs. ATL)

10. Bryce Harper, WSH (vs. BOS)

11. David Peralta, ARI (vs. STL)

12. Michael Brantley, CLE (@ KC)

13. Adam Eaton, WSH (vs. BOS)

14. Eddie Rosario, MIN (@ MIL)

15. Harrison Bader, STL (@ ARI)

16. Tommy Pham, STL (@ ARI)

17. Gorkys Hernandez, SF (@ COL)

18. Joc Pederson, LAD (vs. PIT)

19. Adam Duvall, CIN (vs. CWS)

20. Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE (@ KC)

One name who tends to get overlooked in any slate is Castellanos. In the past week, he’s 11-for-28 (.393) with three doubles and four home runs (12 RBI). Castellanos has homered in three of the past four games and has tallied two hits in each game he’s homered during that span. Lefty Ryan Borucki is making his second career start on Monday. In his lone outing, Borucki allowed two earned runs and walked four Astros. Castellanos leads the Tigers with a .271 ISO against southpaws.

Naturally, it’s a good idea to target bats playing at Coors Field. Hernandez not only comes with the benefit of playing in that atmosphere, but he also has solid career numbers against Kyle Freeland. In his career, Hernandez is 7-for-18 (.389) with one home run against Freeland.
