Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: Tyler Skaggs, Stephen Strasburg, Chris Archer

Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: Tyler Skaggs, Stephen Strasburg, Chris Archer

We’re here to get you ready for Week 15 of the fantasy season by giving you the latest information on all of the injuries around Major League Baseball. The All-Star break is only a week away, so don’t be surprised if players with minor injuries are getting extra rest this week.

Tyler Skaggs is having a breakout season for the Angels, but had to be scratched from his start on Thursday with a right adductor strain. Skaggs was placed on the 10-day DL on July 4, retroactive to July 1. While the initial timetable was unknown, he played catch on July 6 and threw a bullpen session on July 8. It is possible that he could return to the Angels as early as this week and only miss the one start. You’ll probably need to be cautious with Skaggs in weekly leagues, but he will likely make a start this week.

Big news for fantasy owners as Stephen Strasburg has thrown two bullpen sessions and a simulated game in the last couple of weeks. Strasburg has been on the 10-day DL since June 8 with shoulder inflammation. He is scheduled to start a rehab assignment on July 10 at Single-A Potomac and could be ready to go after the All-Star break.

Chris Archer may be close to returning as well. Archer has been on the 10-day DL since June 5 with a left abdominal strain. He started in a Single-A rehab assignment on Tuesday and allowed no runs through four innings with seven strikeouts. Archer is expected to start on Monday for the Rays, but he will likely be on a pitch count. It’s usually better to play the wait and see game with pitchers coming off the DL, but most fantasy owners probably don’t have the depth to keep Archer on their bench.

Here are a few more injuries that we are tracking from the previous week of action.

An MRI on Shane Greene’s shoulder revealed no structural damage after he was placed on the DL on July 2. He resumed throwing this weekend and could be back as early as next week.

Aroldis Chapman (RP – NYY)
Chapman had to leave Saturday’s game with tendinitis in his left knee. He is currently listed as day-to-day. The Yankees are not concerned about the injury, and he has been dealing with the it since May.

Joe Musgrove (SP – PIT)
Musgrove hit the 10-day DL on July 4 with an infection in his right index finger. He played catch on July 6 and threw a bullpen session on July 7. It is possible that Musgrove could only miss the one start and pitch on July 10 for the Pirates. You may want to keep Musgrove on your bench this week given the injury and his recent struggles.

Story was scratched from the lineup on Saturday with discomfort in his right foot. He was back in the lineup on Sunday and should be good to go for this week.

Marco Estrada (SP – TOR)
Estrada had to be removed from his start on July 3 with a mild strain in his left glute. He is currently listed as day-to-day but is hopeful that he will make his next start.

Brian McCann (C – HOU)
McCann went on the DL on July 3 and underwent right knee surgery. He has a chance to return in 2018, but does not currently have a set timetable to return. He can probably be dropped in most fantasy leagues.

Tyler O’Neill (OF – STL)
O’Neill was placed on the DL on July 5 with a hamstring strain. He does not have a set date to return.
