We’ve got a small seven-game slate today on DraftKings, meaning we’ll have to get creative with our lineups tonight. There are a surprising amount of high-end pitchers on such a small slate. Eight pitchers have a price tag above $8,000, meaning over half the slate could be considered reliable and trustworthy pitchers.

Pitchers
Jon Gray (COL): $8,700 @ LAA
Gray has been dominant since returning from his two-week stint in the minors. Since July 14 he has a 2.59 ERA, 3.52 FIP, and 4.3 K/BB ratio. On the season Gray has a 3.27 FIP and 10.36 K/9, and pretty much every statistic besides his 4.67 ERA screams ace. He is trustworthy in this outing, even in a tough matchup against the Angels. It’s a tough matchup by season-long rankings, that is, however, the Angels have a .715 OPS and .165 ISO as a team in August. They built up much of their numbers in first half of the season but have been fading as of late. Gray has pitched like a frontline starter, so we’ll gladly take him for this price.
Sam Gaviglio (TOR): $7,000 @ BAL
Gaviglio pitched well against the Orioles in his last start with two runs allowed over seven innings with seven strikeouts, good for 25.6 points on DraftKings. The Orioles are a bad lineup that has a .306 wOBA and 24% strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers this season. Both of those metrics have taken a slight hit in August because of the Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop trades. Gaviglio may have a 4.94 ERA, but he also has a 3.97 xFIP and 3.1 K/BB ratio. Gaviglio has been picking up his strikeout game lately, striking out exactly seven hitters in three of his last four starts. Against a lineup devoid of formidable talent he is a fine SP2.
