DraftKings PGA Recommended Plays: Northern Trust Open

The first week of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs will head to Paramus, New Jersey for the Northern Trust Open. The next four weeks will feature stacked fields, which is honestly a huge relief for any diehard PGA DFS players. No longer do we have to spend hours researching players that might not even be on the PGA Tour next season. Almost every player in this week’s field has seen their fair share of success in the 2018 season.

Storylines
Obviously, it will center around the first week of the playoffs. After this week, the playoff field will slim down to the top 100 players rather than the top 125. Almost every big-name is here, except for Rory McIlroy, who is taking the week off to further work on his game. He is in no danger of not advancing to the next round of qualifying but obviously can’t improve his position in the standings either.

The Course
Ridgewood Country Club is the host venue this week and plays as a par 71. It stretches out to 7,385 yards and is a pretty straight-forward setup. Treelined fairways and thick rough surround the course but proper execution will allow lower scores. Off-the-tee play will be important here because the Par 4s are long, so if you are not executing and finding the fairway on a consistent basis, you will struggle to reach the green in two shots. The greens are bentgrass, which obviously favors some golfers more than others.

Golfers to Target

Kevin Kisner $7,300
Yes, I am leading off with a player priced at $7,300. This price feels almost too good to be true. This is the equivalent of taking a heavy road favorite in the NFL against an inferior opponent. Trappy. But Kisner sets up really well here and possesses one of the best short games on Tour. He hits a ton of fairways too which is going to help a lot in terms of finding the green on his approach shot.

Jason Day $10,700
Day has found his form with his ball-striking and is the best scrambler in the world. I expect his ownership to be higher than normal because his game really fits this course and other analysts around the industry have been pumping his tires big-time heading into this week.

Bryson DeChambeau $7,400
DeChambeau is on the outside-looking-in when it comes to the Ryder Cup so he is going to have to play well in the upcoming weeks to squeeze his way onto the United States team. His length off-the-tee should set him up for easier approach shots. He hasn’t played since the PGA Championship so I am hoping the extra week off gave him time to rediscover what made him so good in the earlier portion of the 2018 season. And honestly, the $7,400 price-tag is a huge discount on what he is normally priced.

Zach Johnson $8,700
Johnson has finished in the top 20 in his last six starts. I am going with recent form here.

Keegan Bradley $7,000
I love Keegan this week. His price tag is incredible given he has been one of the most consistent players on Tour this season. He hasn’t missed a cut since the U.S. Open and loves playing on courses in the Northeast.
