FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (8/3)

August has arrived and we have an NFL preseason game in the books but that doesn’t mean that baseball should be tossed aside with MLB teams scoring more points(runs) in recent days than some football teams do. Who will score 15-plus runs on Friday night? There are a few teams that could be in contention including some of the clubs that my FanDuel lineup is drawn from for Friday night.

As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time. Chris Archer (PIT): $9,000 vs. STL
Archer has not been elite this season with 4.31 ERA and his lowest strikeout rate (24.7%) since 2014. However, his move to the Pirates and the National League while pitching for a Wild Card contender could rejuvenate his season. His xFIP (3.63) this year is still in line with his career number and his strikeout rate has improved up to 28.3% since coming off the DL on July 9. He’ll pitch in front of the hometown fans on Friday against Cardinals team that has a bottom six wOBA (.299) and wRC+ (87) over the last 30 days against right-handed pitching. I’m expecting a sparkling debut for Archer.

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports. I am married and have twin boys who I am raising to be sports and fantasy junkies just like me.
