Dynasty IDP Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 1 (2018 Fantasy Football)

John Orr discusses weekly dynasty IDP waiver pickups during each week of the NFL season.

I’m going to give you a few adds each week for you to think about and consider. I play in deep dynasty IDP leagues so my recommendations will be based on that. You won’t get the big name adds from me because they are probably owned already. Week 1 is here, ready or not it’s game week.

Eric Rowe (CB – NE)
It took him all of last season to learn and understand the complicated ways of the Patriots defense. After a great preseason, he will find himself starting this season. This week he will face off against Deshaun Watson and, of course, DeAndre Hopkins and company. I expect Houston to look down the field and get the ball in the air, which will give chances for some deflected passes and tackles. In my leagues, the deflected passes can add up for you. If your leagues require CBs and you’re scrambling to add one, this is a solid addition for you.

Kendall Fuller (CB – KC)
I’ve noticed him available in many places and underowned on MFL. This guy will be moved into the slot and outside, which will keep him on the field. With a fantasy corner, you’re looking for those crafty corners who play all game long to give you plenty of chances for points. With Philip Rivers tossing the ball there will be plenty of opportunities this week.

Chris Conte (S – TB)
Yes! He is locked in as a starter. He will jump off the waivers and start this week for you. Drew Brees will not be dropping back fifty times this week but will target Conte in coverage. What happens when the ball is coming your way often? Tackles! You won’t need an interception returned for a touchdown from him to save your game, just some solid tackle numbers, and that will happen.

Shawn Williams (S – CIN)
It seems like everyone is afraid to touch the Bengals’ secondary. Their safeties are sitting on everyone’s waiver wires. Brush them off and build some depth on your benches. In a league where we start three safeties, I just added him to start. After LBs, the safety position is next up for me to stash players. I can see Cincinnati get up on the Indianapolis Colts and force Andrew Luck to play catch up and for that reason, I’m not only looking to add him, but I am also starting him.

Jessie Bates (S – CIN)
I know, I’m double dipping here. I mean, he is another starter. If he is not on someone’s taxi squad in your league, you’ll most likely find him sitting on your waivers. I think he will be busy this week but he is a worthwhile stash in dynasty. Put in a claim and snatch him up.

Andrew Billings (DT – CIN)
The 23-year-old was a favorite of mine entering the NFL. Injury free, he has been lighting up offensive lines this preseason. It’s not like teams can double team him with Geno Atkins around. In my leagues that start one or more, he is a must-own for me. He will win against guards and will have some juicy matchups this season. Get him picked up and you’ll be happy about it.

B.J. Hill (DE – NYG)
I’ve been intrigued with his ability to take it to the offensive line. This kid is built and can push the line back into the QB. If he was a stock, I’d have him listed as a “hold,” but in fantasy, I will stash and see. Ideally, he will be one who can get us some tackles and a batted ball once in a while to be someone who you can count on to keep you from goose eggs on the score sheet.

Daquan Jones (DE – TEN)
If you’re finding yourself thin on your defensive front, this is a quality starter you can add and plug. Chances are you’re already locked in and ready for Week 1, but he is an option if you’re in need. He is only four percent owned at this time.

Devon Kinard (LB – DET)
He will be on the field and, as you know, that’s helpful in our quest for points. All eyes will be on this Lions’ defense early on to figure out how they will play in the new defense. Kinard with his experience will play a key role. LB depth is critical, and you should hoard as many as you can carry.

Derrick Morgan (LB – TEN)
This is another situation where you have a starter on your waiver wire. In shallow leagues that only start two, you can skip him but in deeper leagues, all starters need to be owned. This is a depth move and one that won’t cost you much to acquire.

Chad Thomas (DE – CLE)
He is in a key back up role and should get some relief snaps on the Browns’ front line. With both Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah missing games last season in bunches he could get plenty of snaps if an injury were to happen. The Browns have released the depth ahead of him so they believe in him. Judging from his preseason, I would tend to agree with them. Stash him if you’re able.

Thanks for checking out my waiver adds. The season is getting ready to kick off, and I will be with you for your journey. Good luck this week!
