At this point in the season, if you have been following my lineup advice all year, you can probably predict who is going to be in my write up for Monday’s 12-game MLB slate as there are a lot of familiar names. It’s crunch time as the playoff chase, particularly in the National League, heats up with just one week left of the season. So, it should come as no surprise that most of the players in today’s lineup come from teams in the NL fighting for those playoff spots.
As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time. Jack Flaherty (STL): $9,000 vs. MIL
The Cardinals currently hold the final Wild Card spot in the NL and are still chasing the Brewers to try to get the game at home. The two clubs square off in a big three-game series on Monday with Flaherty taking the mound for the Cardinals. Flaherty has absolutely dominated the Brewers this season allowing just two runs over three starts (18 innings) with 29 strikeouts. He has allowed a minuscule .234 wOBA against Brewers hitters with a massive 42.9% strikeout rate in 70 plate appearances. My only hesitation on Flaherty is if he does get into trouble, they could have a quick hook with so much at stake. If you pivot off Flaherty, I’d rather go cheaper with either Cole Hamels or Nathan Eovaldi who are both home favorites.
