RB Super Chart: Week 2 (Fantasy Football)

RB Super Chart: Week 2 (Fantasy Football)

Welcome to our Week 2 Fantasy Football Super Chart series, covering the running back position. The Super Chart is your all-in-one spreadsheet that breaks down all of the significant stats and numbers from the previous week, as well as year-to-date. The main purpose of the Super Chart is to help you determine your starting lineup, waiver wire pickups, and much more by using various forms of stat-driven data. Before we get to the good part, please take a moment to review each category and what it means. If you are already familiar with all of the terms and categories, feel free to skip ahead to view the Super Chart.

Weekly Fantasy Points/Fantasy Points Per Game (FPPG)
The first stat that we track is simple, yet important. The Super Chart is sorted by the leaders in fantasy points from the previous week and followed up with Fantasy Points Per Game in the next column.

Weekly Touches/Weekly Touch %
This is one of the most underrated aspects of fantasy football. Studying the percentage of touches for each backfield can help you determine potential breakout and bust candidates in advance. Remember, the first road to success in fantasy is opportunity.

YTD Touches/YTD Touch %
We not only track weekly touch percentages but also year-to-date touches. Any running back hovering around that 75-80 percent range should be considered a workhorse.

Weekly/YTD Receptions
PPR formats have taken over the fantasy football landscape and tracking receptions is an important part of finding consistent success. Running backs that don’t catch many passes are usually touchdown-dependent and are more likely to struggle with consistency.

Next Week Opponent
This is pretty self-explanatory. It’s a look ahead to the upcoming matchup with the opposition’s rank against the run in fantasy. The 32nd ranked fantasy defense is a favorable matchup, while the 1st ranked defense is the most difficult.

# of 100 Yard Games
Some leagues offer bonus points at 100 yards rushing, and it’s also a great way to track consistency.

Fantasy Points Per Touch
Lastly, fantasy points per touch can help you identify explosive players who can put up big numbers with more opportunity.

The Super Chart is jam-packed with so much information that we can only fit so much into the article. To view the Super Chart in its entirety, please click here (Don’t worry, it’s free).

Quick Hits:

  • James Conner was the only running back to handle 100% of his team’s backfield touches in Week 1. He turned all 36 touches into 34.2 fantasy points. He should be considered an RB1 until Le’Veon Bell reports to the team.
  • Alvin Kamara led all RBs with 43.1 fantasy points, despite having just 17 total touches. He also led all backs with 2.54 fantasy points per touch (min. 5 touches). He is arguably the safest fantasy option in Week 2 when the Saints play host to the Cleveland Browns, who rank 29th against the run.
  • Only seven RBs secured 80 percent or more of their respective team’s backfield touches in Week 1: James Conner, Joe Mixon, Ezekiel Elliott, Todd Gurley, Peyton Barber, Alvin Kamara, and Saquon Barkley.
  • Phillip Lindsay’s 47 percent share of Denver’s backfield was a shock and disappointment to those who invested heavily in Royce Freeman. Freeman will still be fantasy-relevant, but Lindsay is certainly worth a waiver wire add.
  • Dion Lewis out-touched Derrick Henry 22 to 11 and outscored him in FPPT (fantasy points per touch) 1.05 to 0.37. Lewis is looking like the better PPR option moving forward.
