Bobby Sylvester’s Week 5 Rankings (Fantasy Football)

Bobby Sylvester’s Week 5 Rankings (Fantasy Football)

Corey Davis and Calvin Ridley continued their breakout campaigns last week, but only one of these future WR1s have a good enough matchup that you can lock him into your lineups. Every week fantasy owners are faced with tough start/sit decisions that could make or break their season so today I’ll give you answers to all those questions with my Week 5 rankings. There is plenty that can change between now and Sunday’s kickoff so make sure to check back in, especially on injured players and their potential replacements. I’ll update these rankings every few hours up through the weekend and those changes will show up on this page. You can use the tabs for flex or even Superflex as well as half-PPR, PPR or standard leagues to help make your start/sit decisions. None of these rankings are done for hyperbole, but are the actual order I would play them in if it were my own lineup. Before we get to the rankings, I’ll explain four of the most controversial ones. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to let me know on Twitter. The shorter you keep it, the more I can get to. Good luck!

Blake Bortles (QB #8 vs ECR #12)
I posted on Twitter earlier this week that over the last 10 regular season weeks, Bortles has been the number one QB in fantasy football. Seriously, no joke. Yes, he flopped two weeks ago, but has otherwise been excellent to begin the season and we know he has been extraordinary over the past two seasons when Fournette is out of the lineup. That is exactly what we have this time around, except it is also against perhaps the worst pass defense in the NFL. The Chiefs have allowed 30 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks so don’t hesitate to stream Bortles if you need a QB this weekend.

Mark Ingram (RB #9 vs ECR #15)
The general public opinion on Ingram is that he was great last year, but this is clearly Kamara’s backfield now so Ingram is going to lose a bunch of touches. Rather, Kamara has actually been less effective this season than last year. The only difference has been touches. If Ingram didn’t lose touches to Kamara last year then chances are that he will still be every bit as involved in 2018. Last season, Kamara was an RB1 in 44% of his games and busted (not an RB3 or better) in just 6.3%. The RB1 rate was 7th among running backs while the bust rate was tied for 3rd best. To put it plainly, Ingram is an RB1 for the rest of the season and this week’s shootout is no different.

Adrian Peterson (RB #15 vs ECR #23)
Believe it or not, AP has been the 5th most fantasy points per game at the running back position this season behind four superstars (Kamara, Gurley, Gordon and Elliott). Watching the tape, it is easy to see him continuing as a borderline RB1 because he has been exceptional. This is the best offensive line Peterson has ever been behind and he is still being fed like a workhorse so I have no concerns about playing him once again this weekend when they take on the Saints.

Ryan Grant (WR #26 vs ECR #44)
The Colts have already ruled T.Y. Hilton out which means Grant steps up to #1 on the depth chart. We can be almost certain that the Patriots will have the lead most of this game so expect plenty more passes from Andrew Luck again this week after he threw 60+ last Sunday. That, of course, means that Grant could be on his way to double-digit touches against a secondary that was recently shredded by the Jacksonville Jaguars so don’t think twice about plugging Grant into your lineups. He is a strong start this week.
