Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 5

Welcome to the dreaded injury report. Professional football is a violent game, and your fantasy players are going to miss time because of it. Hopefully, you don’t have many names on this list.

Kerryon Johnson (RB – DET)
The best RB on the Lions tweaked his ankle late in the Lions easy victory over the Packers and did not return. Kerryon Johnson said he was fine, though, and that he would have returned had it mattered. For reasons I cannot fathom, LeGarrette Blount is still on this roster and sapping Johnson’s value.

Saquon Barkley (RB – NYG)
After scoring the late go-ahead touchdown, Saquon Barkley landed awkwardly leaping into the end zone and looked to be in considerable pain. Fortunately, everything we’ve heard since then is positive. It doesn’t look like Barkley will miss any time.

Corey Grant (RB – JAX)
T.J. Yeldon‘s backup, Corey Grant, left the game with a foot injury later revealed to be a lisfranc. His season is over. With Leonard Fournette likely out until Week 10, the Jaguars will be signing someone this week. Yeldon remains locked into one of the biggest workloads in the league right now.

Pierre Garcon (WR – SF)
The 49ers’ offense has been riddled with injuries this season. Pierre Garcon briefly exited in the first half with a shoulder issue, but returned to finish the game. He should be fine going forward, but isn’t a trustworthy fantasy option.

Matt Breida (RB – SF)
The 49ers’ starting RB wasn’t as lucky. Matt Breida was already battling knee and shoulder injuries and added an ankle injury to the ledger on Sunday. Alfred Morris took over as the primary back with Raheem Mostert checking in on occasion and Kyle Juszczyk playing on most passing downs. If Breida can’t go, Morris is a touchdown-dependent RB3 and Juszczyk is a sneaky PPR option.

Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp (WRs – LAR)
Two of the Rams’ big three WRs suffered concussions in their narrow road win at Seattle. Brandin Cooks exited after a big hit on what would’ve been his first reception. It is unclear when Cooper Kupp was actually injured. Both will go through the concussion protocol with the hopes of being cleared by next week’s game. Josh Reynolds is certainly worth a look if either cannot make it back in time.
