Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 8

Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 8

Welcome to the dreaded injury report. Professional football is a violent game, and your fantasy players are going to miss time because of it. Hopefully, you don’t have many names on this list.

Will Fuller (WR – HOU)
The most significant injury of the week took place on Thursday night, as the Texans lost dynasty WR Will Fuller for the season to a torn ACL in his right knee. As a result of the injury, rookie WR Keke Coutee, who’s dealing with an injury of his own, will step into the No. 2 receiver role and should see an increase in usage and value. DeAndre Hopkins will continue to get his, and there could be a trickle-down effect for the TEs on the roster. It’s also worth noting Deshaun Watson’s splits with and without Fuller. The summary is this isn’t a good thing for Watson owners, based on his track record.

Emmanuel Sanders (WR – DEN)
The Broncos saw their top receiver take a big hit to his shoulder, resulting in him exiting the game. Emmanuel Sanders reportedly stated he was fine, but players are often overly optimistic about their health. If Sanders can’t go (or if Demaryius Thomas is traded), Courtland Sutton needs to be owned everywhere. He is a future WR1 when the opportunity comes.

Tyreek Hill (WR – KC)
Towards the very end of the Chiefs’ win over the Broncos, Tyreek Hill pulled his groin. While a groin strain is never what you want to hear, especially for a guy so reliant on his speed, Hill was seen celebrating the victory in an inflatable sumo wrestler suit, so perhaps his exit was merely precautionary. If Hill has to miss any time, Chris Conley becomes a name of interest.

A.J. Green (WR – CIN)
Late in the Bengals narrow victory over the Bucs, A.J. Green jammed his toe and may be dealing with turf toe. A toe sprain is a huge problem for a wide receiver. Green can play through it, but he won’t be nearly as effective. Let’s hope that this is nothing.

Mike Evans (WR – TB)
Ryan Fitzpatrick’s return was a boon to Mike Evans’ value. Unfortunately, Evans seemed to tweak his knee late in the game. It was non-contact but it didn’t look like an ACL tear. It is unclear whether he will need an MRI or if he will miss any time. Chris Godwin has excelled in Evans’ absence in the past and would see a spike in value.

Ben Roethlisberger (QB – PIT)
Big Ben suffered a finger injury before the end of the first half, but he was able to play through the ailment and lead the Steelers to an easy victory over the Browns. It’s worth keeping an eye on for fantasy owners, but Roethlisberger has played through significant injury before.

Ronald Jones (RB – TB)
The Bucs’ first-round rookie sustained a hamstring injury in their loss to the Bengals. Jones was not a threat to Peyton Barber, largely because Jones is terrible at football. Nothing to see here.

David Johnson (RB – ARI)
David Johnson was sent to the locker room late in the Cardinals’ comeback win over the 49ers to be evaluated for a concussion. He was cleared and ultimately returned the game. Nothing to worry about here as the Cardinals head into their bye.

Sony Michel (RB – NE)
It was a promising sign to see Sony Michel return to practice Saturday, but he still won’t play Monday night. Michel could very well return in Week 9 and looks like a lock to return no later than Week 10. Kenjon Barner will split snaps with James White in the interim.

LeSean McCoy (RB – BUF)
While Michel isn’t expected to play Monday night against the Bills, Buffalo should have their lead back available after McCoy cleared concussion protocol over the weekend. This isn’t expected to be a favorable game script for Shady, but the New England defense is vulnerable. Due to expected volume, McCoy continues to be an RB2, though he’s a bit riskier than usual coming off the concussion.
