FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Tuesday (10/16)

FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Tuesday (10/16)

Eight games are scheduled this Tuesday evening. With the game transitioning to a faster, more offensive style of play, goals have not been hard to come by. The Vegas game lines have taken notice and increased the average total dramatically. In the eight games on tap, seven have a projected total of six goals scored or more. With that said, there is a lot to look at tonight, for DFS purposes, so let’s dive in!

Center

Sean Couturier (PHI): $6,900 vs. FLA
The Florida Panthers are another team who has played just three games to start the season. They have yet to win a game and will be in tough against the Flyers. Couturier is emerging as one of the leagues best two-way centers and benefits offensively from centering Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. The trio contributes most of the team’s offense every night as they also correlate on the top power-play unit as well. Although the Panthers are a deeper team, they have had a rough start, allowing 10 goals against through their first three games.

Bo Horvat (VAN): $6,200 @ PIT
News recently came out that the Canucks young star, Elias Pettersson, will be sidelined for seven to 10 days with a concussion. Other skilled players for the Cauncks are going to have to step up and find the offense needed for tonight’s matchup against one of the best teams in the NHL. Horvat has recorded four points in his first five games, where he plays on the Canucks top forward line and power-play unit. The Penguins are struggling to keep the puck out of the back of the net all season long and tonight will be no different. Pittsburgh will be without defenseman Justin Schultz who eats a lot of minutes per game and is a great skating d-man. This should give the speedy Vancouver forwards more time to set up the offense and score goals.

Wing

Claude Giroux (PHI): $7,500 vs. FLA
The second piece to a Flyers stack is the winger, Giroux. Often forgotten about was his incredible 2017-18 season when he finished the year second overall in points scored. He rarely gets the respect he deserves and should be considered as one of the best forwards in the NHL. With a goal and five assists to start the season, the Flyers superstar is off to another great start and will look to capitalize on a great matchup against the Panthers.

Sven Baertschi (VAN): $4,600 @ PIT
In a “high event” hockey game at a fast pace, plenty of goals will be had. This game has plenty of fantasy goodness on both sides, but the Canucks top line is where the value is. At less than $5,000, Canucks top left-winger, Baertschi is a great piece to a Canucks stack. He has scored five points in his last three games and is rolling with fellow linemates Horvat and Brock Boesser. Baertschi plays alongside Horvat on the Canucks top power-play unit, which gives him a bit of an edge over Boesser if you can only play two. However, all three should be considered in a stack against a defensively weak Penguins team that has allowed four goals against per game.

Phil Kessel (PIT): $7,900 vs. VAN
Bringing back a couple of Penguins on a Canucks stack makes sense in a game which should see the most goals scored this evening. Kessel is on fire right now. He scored seven points in the first four games, including a hat trick last Thursday. With the defensive liabilities the Penguins have shown, Pittsburgh has relied heavily on their offense to keep them in games. They have arguably the best power play in the NHL, which features the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and of course, Kessel. The Canucks are still a relatively young team and not as disciplined when it comes to taking penalties. Averaging 11.4 minutes per game, Vancouver is on a long road trip and could find themselves playing sloppy against a speedy team. This will lead to a lot of man-advantage opportunities for the Penguins to score.

Defense

Kris Letang (PIT): $6,400 vs. VAN
One of the very best offensive defensemen in the league just became even more valuable for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Justin Schultz is out with a broken leg and will remain out of the lineup for at least four months. Schultz was an important offensive piece to the back end, where he led the second power-play unit and was a part of the second defensive pairing. Letang, who already averages 27 minutes of ice time per game, will be leaned on even more. Letang is also averaging 22.7 FanDuel points per game and continues to be worth paying up for. He comes in as the most expensive defenseman, but is hard to fade.

Matt Dumba (MIN): $4,400 vs. ARI
On the back end of their back-to-back, the Wild will lean on their big defensemen for important minutes against a stingy, Arizona Coyotes. Dumba is a young talent who has been able to learn from one of the best, Ryan Suter. Now, Dumba is starting to take over the reigns as a minute eater. He is now averaging 24 minutes per game, which includes time on the power play. Dumba can produce offense, with a massive shot from the blueline as well as chipping in on assists.

Goalie

Connor Hellebuyck (WPG): $8,400 vs. EDM
Two things are going to work in favor of the Jets this evening. First, they are a much better team on home ice. They were last year and the same rings true so far this season as well. They are 3-2 on the season. All three wins came on home ice, while the two losses happened on the road. Second, the Edmonton Oilers look more like last year’s team than the 2016-17 season team. Yes, Connor McDavid is the best player in the NHL, and he is a threat to score every game, no question. However, having faith in the Jets’ defensive ability to shut down a disgruntled team seems logical. The Oilers have scored just five goals all season and McDavid has been apart of each one. There is no secondary scoring, and the Jets are simply a much better team. Hellebuyck is one of the safest goalies starting this evening for the win.
