Bobby Sylvester’s Week 9 Rankings (Fantasy Football)

Bobby Sylvester’s Week 9 Rankings (Fantasy Football)

Week 8 was another one dominated by Patrick Mahomes and Todd Gurley, and while those were easy calls, not every start/sit decision is built that way. Rather, most fantasy owners were on the fence with Larry Fitzgerald, Lamar Miller and Kenyan Drake. If you were wise enough to start any of those three, chances are high that you came away with a win in your matchup. Today I am here to offer my Week 9 rankings so you can get every single start/sit question answered. There is plenty that can change between now and Sunday’s kickoff so make sure to check back in, especially on injured players and their potential replacements. I’ll update these rankings every few hours up through the weekend and those changes will show up on this page. You can use the tabs for flex or even Superflex as well as half-PPR, PPR or standard leagues to help make your start/sit decisions. None of these rankings are done for hyperbole, but are the actual order I would play them in if it were my own lineup. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to let me know on Twitter. The shorter you keep it, the more I can get to. Now before I show you all the rankings, let me tell you about four particular rankings that might surprise you and why I have them as I do.

Mitch Trubisky (QB #7 vs ECR #12)
I legitimately can’t believe anyone would consider benching Mitch at this point. Even if he were going up against the 2017 Jaguars’ secondary, I’d start him without hesitation. Everyone is so excited about Mahomes and for good reason, but what Trubisky has done over the past four weeks has only been done before by one other QB in fantasy football history. Trubiksy has 124 fantasy points over those four games with Tom Brady‘s historical 2007 stretch being the only four-game run better than his. Until he slows down, Trubisky should be played everywhere. He is the best running quarterback in the NFL and while there will be turnovers mixed in, he passes for plenty of yards as well.

LeSean McCoy (RB #32 vs ECR #28)
A few weeks ago it seemed like McCoy had finally turned the corner to a quality season with 40 carries for 158 yards in two weeks, but since then he has just 14 rushing yards. Believe it or not, McCoy hasn’t even registered a touchdown on the season, but that shouldn’t surprise you considering just how abysmal this offense is. To make matters worse, Buffalo draws the Bears’ defense that might be the best unit in football this year versus running backs. The game script isn’t promising and McCoy is banged up so there are enough red flags here to safely put McCoy on your bench.

DeSean Jackson (WR #34 vs ECR #22)
We know James Bradberry is going to be in shadow coverage versus Mike Evans because the Panthers always use him that way against the Bucs. That means rookie Donte Jackson and his blazing speed will be due to cover D-Jax. While he isn’t the best corner in football, it isn’t an ideal matchup for DeSean who makes his money deep. Jackson remains a boom or bust receiver with a 15% target share. That is 82nd in football behind players like Josh Doctson, Jermaine Kearse, Jalen Richard and Willie Snead. You can flip a coin this week, but there is a 50% chance it will turn up tails with Jackson catching 3 balls for 35 yards and no touchdowns.

Jordy Nelson (WR #46 vs ECR #33)
With Amari Cooper gone, it seems that everyone is suddenly expecting Nelson to see a substantial jump in targets, but let’s remember that the reason Amari Cooper “struggled” is that he wasn’t seeing any targets. Nelson’s target share should remain steady, but his production may go the wrong direction since he is expected to move out wide where the best cornerbacks in football live. While he has had a great career, Nelson is just too slow at this point to make a fantasy-level impact split out wide.
