FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Wednesday (11/7)

FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Wednesday (11/7)

Wednesday night brings us just three games in the NHL. While there are not a lot of games scheduled this evening, there are plenty of DFS contests and a lot of money to be won. Even though there are just six teams taking the ice, there will be plenty of offense. Let’s take a deep dive into this small slate and try to find some of the best DFS options available.

Center

Evgeny Kuznetsov (WAS): $7,600 vs. PIT
The Penguins have been awful in their last two games. It has simply been bizarre. In their last two games, both at home, the Pens have lost 5-0 and 5-1. While we cannot expect Pittsburgh to allow another five goals against, the Capitals can certainly take advantage of a slumping team. Evgeny Kuznetsov will center the top forward line on the Capitals and will also log top unit power-play time. Look for the dynamic center to feed Alex Ovechkin early and often all game.

Mikael Backlund (CGY): $5,400 @ ANH
Calgary will travel to Anaheim to take on the Ducks. The Calgary Flames have been the hardest team to predict all season long. They have some of the biggest comebacks and while they have played poor hockey, they are sitting in second place in the Pacific Division. What is more obvious is how bad the Ducks have been. They rank 31st in the NHL in CF%. At a 42.22% rate, during even strength, the Ducks have been dominated all season. Backlund will get the better matchup as Anaheim will look to shut down the Flames top line. Stacking this line will be very low-owned and inexpensive.

Wing

Alex Ovechkin (WAS): $9,000 vs. PIT
Some would say the Sidney Crosby vs. Alex Ovechkin debate has been settled. Crosby has more cups, Olympic medals and has proven to be an all-around better player. However, Alex Ovechkin is quite possibly the best pure goal-scorer we have witnessed in the past decade. He dominates on the power-play and had a great surrounding cast to set him up when needed. Ovi has scored 11 goals and six assists through 13 games this season and will look to add to his point total against a slumping Penguins team.

Matthew Tkachuk (CGY): $6,200 @ ANH
The second line winger is off to a great start this season. In just 15 games played, Matthew Tkachuk has recorded 18 points. He plays with a ton of grit and offensive ability. While also playing on the power-play, Tkachuck has plenty of opportunities and is a perfect pairing with Mikael Backlund.

James Neal (CGY): $5,200 @ ANH
James Neal is off to a slow start, hence his low price-tag. The forward is far too skilled and has positive regression coming. Now on the second line, James Neal should have a lot more offensive opportunities to score. The sniper has expressed his frustration with his current role and will be looking to provide some much-needed offense in an important game.

Defense

John Carlson (WAS): $6,100 vs. PIT
Arguably the best offensive defenseman in the NHL, John Carlson is in a prime spot to put up some points in a high-event game. Carlson is averaging over a point per game, with five goals and 11 assists in the first 13 games. Washington paid Carlson during the offseason and have made it clear that he is the most important piece on the back-end. Playing 26 minutes a night, Carlson is always in a spot to provide fantasy points.

Mark Giordano (CGY): $5,800 @ ANH
Again, the Ducks have been pretty bad, according to advanced analytics. The number of shots given up and possession time has been dreadful. The Flames should be able to take this game with ease. Mark Giordano is one of the most underrated d-men in the league and continues to put up great numbers. While he has only scored two goals, Giordano has added 13 assists for 15 points in 15 games. Gio plays on the top defensive pairing and the top power-play unit.

Goalie

Semyon Varlamov (COL): $8,200
It is hard to recommend a goalie against the Nashville Predators. However, at home, the Avalanche are a very tough team to beat. It is true that the altitude has an effect on any athlete visiting the city and hockey is no different. Semyon Varlamov has been a stud this year, owning a 2.12 GAA and a .936 SV%. Aside from a random, third-period blowout to the Flames on the weekend, Varlamov is an easy Vezina candidate.
