Every once in a while, an expert puts up a week so impressive that it puts them in a tier all to themselves. We had that in Week 13 with Dave Richard (CBS Sports) blowing away the competition. In fact, the difference between #1 in accuracy gap and #2 this week was just as big as the difference between #2 and #20! Richard accomplished this by proving the single most accurate set of wide receiver rankings and top 20 tight end rankings. Let’s take a look at some of his best calls.
There were dozens of extraordinarily impressive rankings embedded within his entire set, but the one that stands out the most was Dave ranking Dante Pettis as his #35 receiver. This was a full 21 spots higher than the expert consensus. Likewise, Dave nailed Adam Humphries (WR #24 vs ECR #32), James White (RB #17 vs ECR #25) and a trio of quarterbacks, Philip Rivers (QB #7 vs ECR #12), Josh Allen (QB #21 vs ECR #27) and Marcus Mariota (QB #13 vs ECR #19). On the opposite end of the spectrum, Dave also predicted some players disappointing fantasy owners. For instance, he ranked Trey Burton well outside startable range as the #16 fantasy tight end in Week 13. The expert consensus had him at TE #10. Three other lousy performances he predicted were DeAndre Hopkins (WR #11 vs ECR #2), Adam Thielen (WR #10 vs ECR #5) and Alshon Jeffery (WR #31 vs ECR #22).
Congratulations to Dave on a truly spectacular performance. Props are also due to Yahoo! Sports for placing two experts in the top 5 in Week 13. Both Scott Pianowski and Andy Behrens had huge weeks, carrying them up to #11 and #25 in the season-long accuracy contest. Let’s see where everyone else now sits in the season-long standings
As always, we recognize the experts that did the best job of ranking the surprise performers from Week 13. Below are several key players that came through beyond expectations for fantasy owners along with the experts who delivered their top ranking.
On the flip side, there is plenty of credit due to the experts who did the reverse. The experts warned many off of players who would have otherwise wrecked their weeks. Let’s take a look at some of the most disappointing fantasy players from Week 13 and the experts whose rankings were closest to their lackluster performance.

Robert Waziak (Pyromaniac) surged to the top of our leaderboard this week, finishing 4th out of 132 experts in Week 13. Waziak has managed his great season by ranking #1 in wide receiver rankings and top 25 for QB, RB and TE rankings. As if that wasn’t enough, he is also top 10 in kicker and DST rankings.
Like Waziak, Matthew Hill (DataForceFF) posted a top 10 week and jumped Jake Ciely (The Athletic) into the #2 spot. That trio of experts are separated by a mere two points, however, so we can expect to see movement among them each week until the close of the season. Others are not eliminated from contention for the end of season top spot, though. Anyone currently ranked in the top 20 technically still has a shot. One notable expert in that range is three-time defending champion, Sean Koerner (The Action Network). Sean sits at #12 in the season-long rankings, having climbed a dozen spots over the last month. If he continues at this rate, he’ll be breathing down the neck of that top three within a few weeks.
Congratulations to Robert on his excellent run to the top of the leaderboard and also to Nathan Jahnke (Pro Football Focus) who’s #3 finish in Week 13 shot him into the top 10 for the season. Special compliments are also due to Pro Football Focus and The Fantasy Footballers for currently placing two experts in the top 10 of the season-long standings.
We’ll be back again after Week 17 to give you the final standings for our 2018 accuracy contest. Until then, be sure to check out the experts’ weekly rankings to help with your lineup decisions.
