DraftKings NHL Lineup Advice: Wednesday (1/23)

DraftKings NHL Lineup Advice: Wednesday (1/23)

Tonight is the last night of NHL games before the All-Star break. Plenty of teams are also entering their bye week and have time to relax before the playoff push. There are six games scheduled this evening with three teams playing their second game of a back-to-back. Let’s break down Wednesday’s slate and find some of the best DFS options at each position.

Center

Auston Matthews (TOR): $7,800 vs. WAS
Yesterday, the Capitals were the team to target in Tuesday’s article. While the top forward line did well, the Sharks’ top unit was better. After a night of travel, Washington will take on Toronto in a game featuring two slumping teams in unfamiliar territory. The Leafs have shaken up their line combinations, and Auston Matthews is finally reunited with Mitch Marner. The dynamic duo should find instant success against a struggling Caps team in a very important game.

Ryan O’Reilly (STL): $6,600 @ ANH
Adding Ryan O’Reilly has proven one of few positive outcomes in St. Louis this season. The two-way center is averaging a point per game this year and is approaching the 20-goal mark. The Ducks, one of the NHL’s weakest teams, would have a far worse record if not for John Gibson’s stellar goaltending. With a 46.85% Corsi For percentage (CF%), Anaheim ranks third-worst in the NHL and will struggle to slow down the Blues’ stars.

Wing

Mitchell Marner (TOR): $7,200 vs. WAS
The debate as to how great of a player Marner is will continue all season. Most Leafs fans are calling him one of the game’s best playmakers in the game, while realistic fans understand that he has had the pleasure of playing alongside world-class goal scorers for much of his young career. Either way, the kid is putting up points and is DFS relevant. Toronto is the top team to stack this evening. While plenty of players contribute to this offense, Matthews and Marner have the most favorable matchup.

Tomas Tatar (MON): $5,200 vs. ARI
Arizona is another team who will play its second game in as many nights. Tomas Tatar is on a three-game point streak, recording two goals and two assists in that span. Paired with Domi, Montreal’s second forward line makes an interesting line stack against the Coyotes, who are wrapping up a three-game East road trip.

Calle Jarnkrok (NSH): $3,900 @ VGK
As Nashville awaits the return of Kyle Turris from injury, the Predators have an opening at center that Calle Jarnkrok has filled nicely. Although listed at wing on DraftKings, Jarnkrok will center the second forward unit and top power play. Nashville will play an up-tempo style against the Golden Knights, providing plenty of opportunities for offense.

Defense

Morgan Rielly (TOR): $5,800 vs. WAS
Defenseman Morgan Rielly is the final piece to tonight’s Leafs stack. Although he has cooled off after a historical start to the campaign, he still logs 23 minutes of ice-time per game. In addition to playing minutes with Matthews and Marner on even strength, Rielly will also quarterback the top power-play unit.

Shea Weber (MON): $5,500 vs. ARI
The Canadiens’ captain has recorded 16 points in 26 games this season and continues to produce fantasy points in multiple ways. As the NHL has seen an uptick in offense this season, so has the veteran defenseman. Averaging a career high in points per game, Shea Weber is leaned on during most aspects of the game. At a fair price, he is a great option in a good matchup tonight.

Goalie

Carey Price (MON): $8,200 vs. ARI
As a home favorite, Carey Price and the Canadiens are expected to win this game handily. Montreal has won six of its last 10 and is fighting to maintain a wild-card spot. Arizona will likely look to backup goaltender Calvin Pickard, who has had a rough season thus far. Since he owns a 4.01 GAA and .863 SV%, Montreal should find goals tonight to support Price in a victory.
