FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (1/3)

FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (1/3)

If you like high-scoring hockey, then you probably enjoyed last night’s slate of games around the NHL as there were at least seven goals scored in all but one game. Tonight, there are seven games scheduled, along with the Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs playing an early afternoon contest. Here are some players to target for DFS this evening.

Center

Aleksander Barkov (FLA): $7,200 @ BUF
There may be some extra motivation for Barkov tonight, who is one of the finalists for the Last Men In All-Star voting, but that might not even matter. Barkov is in the midst of a career year and excelling in Florida. His four-game point streak was snapped on Monday, but look for him to start a new one tonight against Buffalo. Barkov is just over a point-per-game pace with 39 in 38 games. He has 11 points in his last eight games, including a hat trick, but is overdue for a goal or two. Barkov has gone scoreless in his last six games, his last tally coming on Dec. 18th against, guess who…Buffalo.

Phillip Danault (MON): $5,600 vs. VAN
Just as the Montreal Canadiens have been this year, Danault has proven to be a bit of a surprise. He’s been one of the league’s best players over the past two weeks with nine points in his last five games. He’s up to 27 points in 40 games and is getting 16-20 minutes of ice time per game lately.

Wing

Alex DeBrincat (CHI): $6,100 @ NYI
Here’s a player who is looking to set career-highs across the board this year. DeBrincat is having a tremendous season with the Blackhawks and has scored 11 points over the last 12 games. Tonight’s matchup against the New York Islanders poses a tough challenge, but with DeBrincat’s recent run, he’s still worth plugging in. He has six power play points in the last 12 games, and the Islanders’ penalty killing unit ranks 23rd in the league.

Tyler Johnson (TB): $6,200 @ LA
At a price of just over $6K, Johnson makes for a steal in tonight’s lineup. The Lightning have had an incredible first half of the season and are firing on all cylinders right now. They’ve won six straight and Johnson has been a big part of the offense. He should have no problem finding the scoresheet again tonight vs. the Los Angeles Kings. Johnson is coming off a month in which he scored eight goals and five assists in 14 games.

Elias Lindholm (CGY): $6,200 @ BOS
Lindholm has already set new personal bests in goals and points this year. He has six points in the past three games and is getting on the scoresheet consistently for the Flames. Lindholm caught fire in the month of December, scoring 18 points in 14 games, along with posting a plus-17 rating. He carried that over to January with three points last night and is a good bet to keep plugging along this evening.

Anthony Beauvillier (NYI): $5,100 vs. CHI
This is a bit of a money-saving pick, but Beauvillier has posted positive FanDuel fantasy points all season long. He has 15 points through 37 games, but he is capable of contributing shots and blocks as well. He does have six points in his last 10 games, so he has been chipping in more frequently. If you’re looking to spend more on other players, Beauvillier might make for a nice value pick.

Defense

Victor Hedman (TB): $6,700 @ LA
Don’t worry about spending too much for a defenseman tonight. Victor Hedman is a sure bet and he’s right at the top of the list. While he hasn’t scored since November 19th, Hedman has 17 assists in 19 games since then. He typically gets multiple shots and blocks per game and with the way the Lightning have been playing, there’s no reason to think they slow down against the Kings later tonight. Take the top defenseman on the board and reap the rewards.

Colton Parayko (STL): $4,000 vs. WSH
Here’s a budget-friendly option on the blue line, which would allow you the room to take Hedman as mentioned above. Parayko may be the cheapest player in your lineup, but he’s been putting up fantasy points even without scoring. The offense isn’t what you’re paying for here. Parayko’s game is centered around the physical aspect, and he’ll be able to get shots and blocks, and if he does help out on a goal, then consider that a bonus. For a player who is averaging 9.4 fantasy points per game, $4,000 isn’t a bad price at all.

Goaltender

Roberto Luongo (FLA): $7,800 @ BUF
Luongo has dominated the Buffalo Sabres throughout his career and should be a no-brainer for your lineup this evening. He has gone 20-8 with a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage against Buffalo, including five shutouts. Luongo has also won 11 of his last 12 starts against the Sabres, a team that has been struggling and may be without Jack Eichel, who is nursing an injury. Either way, add Luongo to your lineup with confidence.
