FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Wednesday (1/16)

FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Wednesday (1/16)

After a full night in the NHL on Tuesday, there are just five games scheduled this evening. While there will only be half the teams playing, there is plenty to like. Some of the best DFS staking teams are on this slate in lopsided matchups. There can be a case made for multiple high-tier skaters. The issue will be finding value in order to construct lineups. Let’s take a deeper look into the set of games to find some of the best options.

Center

Nathan MacKinnon (COL): $8,600 @ OTT
Nominated for the Hart trophy last season, Nathan MacKinnon has shown critics that he is an elite player in the NHL. There can be an argument made that his speed and skill are a combination which only two other players possess. Now fifth in the league in scoring with 66 points, MacKinnon is the top center option tonight against the Ottawa Senators. Along with his two wingers, the Avalanche top forward line is not easy to fit in but is worth every penny.

Sean Monahan (CGY): $7,300 @ PHI
Johnny Gaudreau casts a very big shadow in Calgary, but Sean Monahan is a large part of the dynamic winger’s success. Monahan is a former first-round draft pick who has consistently scored over 20 goals in every season of his career. With 25 goals, already, Monahan is not just Gaudreau’s side-kick. He is on pace for 100 points this season and will look to continue producing tonight against Buffalo.

Wing

Mikko Rantanen (COL): $7,700 @ OTT
Cooling off, ever so slightly, Rantanen now finds himself ranked fourth in the NHL in points after leading the league for the majority of the year. The Avs have gone through a very tough stretch, winning just four games in their last 17. That being said, they are coming off an impressive and emotional win in Toronto and will look to capitalize in Ottawa. The Sens have allowed the most goals against in the NHL by a wide margin. In addition, they rank last in the league in Corsi For % and shots on goal allowed. The hungry Avalanche will be ready to pour in the offense.

Johnny Gaudreau (CGY): $7,600 vs. BUF
Having a true, MVP candidate season, “Johnny Hockey” once again makes the write-up. There are plenty of expensive forwards to pay up for this evening, and Gaudreau needs to be on the shortlist. He is producing points at an incredible rate right now and is one of (if not the) hottest players in the league. With 69 points on the season, he only trails Nikita Kucherov in the standings.

Alex Chiasson (EDM): $4,300 @ VAN
One of the few positive outcomes coming from Edmonton this season has been the play of Alex Chiasson. Granted he is playing alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. However, he came to the team on a PTO and is making the minimum salary and has scored 17 goals. At $4,300 on FanDuel, Chiasson plays with the best player in the world on both the top forward line and power-play unit.

Defense

Tyson Barrie (COL): $5,800 @ OTT
To start, there are plenty of great defensemen on the board this evening. You can make a case for any one of the top seven priced blueliners. Once again, Tyson Barrie stands out as the key offensive defensemen on what should be the top scoring team this evening. He has lightning speed and often jumps up in the play during turnovers and transitions. Stack up the Avalanche tonight as they have the opportunity to score over five goals tonight.

Mark Giordano (CGY): $6,900 vs. BUF
The Flames are one team who could get overlooked. Colorado, Boston, Edmonton, and San Jose are all in great spots tonight, yet the Flames are one of the hottest teams in the NHL. Mark Giordano has a ridiculous 47 points in 45 games and was just recently snubbed for the All-Star Game. He is the true leader of this team and is leaned on in all facets of the game. Averaging 25 minutes per game, Gio is one of the most underrated players in the league.

Goalie

David Rittich (CGY): $8,000 vs. BUF
The Flames are a -220 favorite at home against the Buffalo Sabres this evening. While most see the Sabres as a solid, defensive team, they are not as good as their record indicates. After going on a 10-game win streak, they have struggled mightily. More recently, they have lost eight of their last 12 games. David Rittich has been incredible for the Flames this season owning a 17-4-3 record, 2.45 GAA, and .920 SV%.
