Third base may be the most top-heavy position in fantasy baseball this year with seven of the top 30 hitters qualifying for the position. In all, there are around 20 players that you can feel good about starting at the position, so you shouldn’t be in any rush to reach for any player, as someone will surely slip enough for you to find value. With that said, I do have a few favorites that I’ve been getting plenty of exposure to in drafts so I’ll tell you about them before getting to the full rankings.

Josh Donaldson (ATL): 8th Round Target
There is no guarantee Donaldson will stay healthy, of course, but as I just mentioned, there is so much depth that you should be able to pick up a useful piece off the waiver wire if your starter goes down with injury. As a result, I don’t mind taking a risk on a high-upside player like Donaldson. Some seem to believe his time of dominating is over, but in the past two years, he has played 163 games and still provided over 40 homers and 100 RBIs with a useful batting average. He may not be an MVP candidate anymore, but if you knew you were getting that type of production, he’d be a second round pick.
Maikel Franco (PHI): 22nd Round Target
Franco has been one of the most consistently disappointing players in fantasy baseball over the years, and as a result, he is a prime post-hype example. Don’t forget, he was once a top prospect and is still young enough that a breakout could be right around the corner. It may have actually already happened, as his pace from June 17th on was a 32 homer, 82 RBI, .294 hitter. Not only that, but the Phillies’ new offense may afford him to make the leap to 90 or even 100 RBIs.
