For this Saturday slate, we’re going to focus on the day games since we have seven of them. One thing we need to keep an eye on is the weather though. We have numerous games with questionable forecasts and it’s imperative to keep an eye on some of the east coast forecasts. The cities with potential rain include New York, Minnesota and Boston. While none of them are necessarily serious, it’s something you simply have to keep track of in order to avoid any big fat 0’s.
Pitchers:
Michael Pineda (MIN) $7,800 vs. DET
Pineda is an easy choice here, as he should be closer to $9,000. The first factor is Vegas, as they have Minnesota as a -195 favorite with a total of eight. Not only does that mean that Pineda is a heavy favorite for a victory, but it also means that Detroit is projected to score fewer than 3,5 runs. That’s no surprise when you consider the fact that Detroit ranks fourth in total strikeouts while ranking 29th with a .257 wOBA. Pineda has been solid this season too, allowing just seven baserunners and two runs across nine innings while striking out 10 guys in two starts. He also threw a season-high 80 pitches in his most recent game, so he should be ready for a full workload here.
Anibal Sanchez (WSH) $6,500 vs. PIT
Sanchez deserves more credit for the season he had last year. In fact, he finished last year with a 2.83 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Those look like the numbers of an $8,000 player, as Sanchez has seen a massive drop in price because of a slow start. Facing Pittsburgh might be just what the doctor ordered though, as they currently sit 26th in total runs and 21st in wOBA. They’ve been even worse on the road, scoring just 13 runs in five games. While Sanchez is tough to trust right now, this matchup and price mitigate almost all of that aforementioned risk.
