Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: Chris Archer, J.D. Martinez, Eloy Jimenez

It’s Week 5 of the fantasy baseball season, and there are plenty of injuries to discuss in this edition of the fantasy baseball injury report.

Chris Archer (SP – PIT) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with inflammation in his right thumb. The injury had bothered him for the last couple of starts. There is not an official timetable for his return, but he is not expected to have an extended absence.

J.D. Martinez (OF – BOS) was a late scratch from Saturday’s lineup with back spasms and was held out of the lineup again on Sunday. He is currently listed as day-to-day.

Eloy Jimenez (OF – CHW) sprained his ankle and went on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to April 27. The sprain is classified as a high ankle sprain, and he is expected to be reevaluated in two weeks. It is not clear at this point how much time he will miss.

It looks like the Yankees could finally receive some good news on the injury front. Miguel Andujar (3B – NYY) has been on the 10-day injured list since April 1 with a small labrum tear in his right shoulder. He played in an extended spring training game this week and could return later this week. The test at this point is his ability to make throws from third base, but he could come back as a designated hitter.

Here are a few more injuries to track this week.

Michael Wacha (SP – STL)
Wacha hit the 10-day injured list April 22, retroactive to April 19, with patellar tendinitis in his left knee. He is expected to make his next start Monday against the Nationals.

Kyle Freeland (SP – COL)
Colorado placed Freeland on the 10-day injured list April 22, retroactive to April 19, with a blister on the middle finger on his left hand. He threw a bullpen session this week and is also in line to return Monday.

Jordan Zimmermann (SP – DET)
Zimmermann was placed on the injured list Friday with a UCL sprain in his right elbow. He does not need surgery and could possibly return sometime in May or June.

Robinson Cano (2B – NYM)
Cano had to be removed from Sunday’s game after getting hit with a pitch on his left hand. X-rays were negative, but he is expected to undergo more tests. He is currently listed as day-to-day.

Ryan Zimmerman (1B – WAS)
Zimmerman was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with plantar fasciitis. He does not currently have a timetable to return.

Trey Mancini (1B/OF – BAL)
Mancini had to be removed from Saturday’s game after having a ball hit his index finger. He is currently listed as day-to-day with a bruised finger.

Anthony Rendon (3B – WAS)
Rendon was out of the lineup this weekend with a left elbow contusion. He had returned on Friday after missing the previous four games. He is currently listed as day-to-day.

Mitch Haniger (OF – SEA)
Haniger is day-to-day with soreness in his right shoulder and was not in the lineup Sunday.

Cody Allen (RP – LAA)
Allen went on the 10-day injured list Friday with a lumbar strain. He does not currently have a timetable to return. The Angels, who removed Allen from the closer’s role prior to this news, will likely use a committee for saves.

Fernando Tatis Jr. (SS – SD)
Tatis left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury after stretching to try to make a force out at second base. The severity remains unknown, but he should currently be considered day-to-day.

Updating Previous Injuries

Corey Dickerson (OF – PIT): Shoulder
Dickerson has been on the injured list since April 4 with a posterior shoulder strain. He started a Triple-A rehab assignment this weekend and is expected to return to the Pirates this Friday.

Shohei Ohtani (DH – LAA): Elbow
Recovering from Tommy John surgery, Ohtani faced live pitching this week. It is possible that he could return to the Angels’ lineup in early May.

Jimmy Nelson (SP – MIL): Shoulder
Nelson was expected to have a rehab start during the weekend, but the premature birth of his twins has put that on hold. Congratulations to Jimmy, who looks like he is getting closer to returning to the Brewers.

Alex Wood (SP – CIN): Back
Wood experienced a setback this week while throwing a bullpen session and may get another opinion on his back next week.
