DRAFT Best Ball Mid-Round Upside Targets (2019 Fantasy Football)

Best ball is an awesome fantasy football format that allows managers to select a team, set, and forget. Simply draft 18 players, and the highest scoring players each week automatically make up your lineup. The highest scoring team at the end of the season wins. That’s it. Best ball drafts have been in swing for months now, so if you haven’t started playing, now is a great time to start! You can play on DRAFT by signing up for free today. Grabbing studs in the early rounds is a fairly simple task, but figuring out who to draft in the mid rounds can be a challenge. With that in mind, here are some high upside mid-round picks to target when drafting your best ball team.

D.J. Moore (WR – CAR): WR22, Overall 51
Curtis Samuel (WR – CAR): WR40, Overall 97
Moore and Samuel had big roles for Carolina last season, and the same should be true in 2019. Samuel racked up 578 total yards and seven total TDs last season as a dual-threat player who lined up at receiver and running back. Moore finished with a 55-788-2 line as a rookie, averaging 14.3 yards per reception. Both players should take a step forward in 2019, especially with Devin Funchess out the door and Greg Olsen a shell of his former self. Moore is the better pick as Cam Newton‘s likely WR1, but both players have high motors, great speed, and best ball value in spades.

Tyler Lockett (WR – SEA): WR24, Overall 54
Doug Baldwin is all but retired, and the next best option on the team is rookie wideout D.K. Metcalf. I love Metcalf’s upside, but Lockett is a proven commodity, and he may line up more in the slot this season. He has a huge opportunity to step into a number one role for one of the league’s best QBs. Don’t forget Lockett’s game-breaking speed and playmaking abilities.

Eric Ebron (TE – IND): TE7, Overall 73
Ebron finally broke out with 13 TDs last season in his first year with the Colts. Although they added another big body in Funchess and a new slot man in Parris Campbell, Ebron should still command a lot of red-zone attention in an offense where TEs thrive.

Jordan Howard (RB – PHI): RB31, Overall 85
Sure, this is a really crowded backfield, but someone’s got to score TDs. As a big and tough back with a history of scoring TDs (18 in last two seasons), he’s the most likely RB in Philly to fill the goal-line role. Scoring is huge in best ball, so scoop up Howard in the seventh or eighth round when available.

Keke Coutee (WR – HOU): WR38, Overall 87
Coutee set an NFL record for receptions (11) by a player in his first NFL game in Week 4 last season and looked impressive in his limited appearances. Though he played in just six games, he still totaled 28 receptions and an 11-128-1 line in two starts. He’s also been talked up by QB Deshaun Watson and has a great chance to slot in as the Texans’ WR2 behind DeAndre Hopkins.

Latavius Murray (RB – NO): RB34, Overall 93
Murray is dangerously undervalued as the RB34, and his 93 overall ADP means you can snag him around the eighth or ninth Round. He’ll play the vacated Mark Ingram role alongside Alvin Kamara in an offense that can support two top-tier backs. The Saints’ rushing attack has been incredibly productive since Kamara came on the scene, and Murray has a ton of upside, especially around the goal line as a huge 6’3, 230-pound bruiser.

Josh Jacobs (RB – OAK): RB36, Overall 98
Jacobs should have a workhorse role right out of the gate, and I’m a big fan of snagging a starting RB in this price range. The Raiders, who have recently re-signed Doug Martin and little other RB depth on the roster, invested a first-round pick into Jacobs. He’s going to be a huge part of the offense as a rookie. The ADP is sure to rise as the season approaches, so get Jacobs cheaply while you can.

Lamar Jackson (QB – BAL): QB16, Overall 105
He could easily finish as a top-12 QB if his rushing numbers are anywhere close to what they were in 2018. According to Mike Tagliere, Jackson’s 147 rushing attempts were the most ever by a QB in a single season, and his 695 rushing yards ranked 11th all time. He struggles with accuracy, so his passing numbers won’t always be big, but crazy rushing totals will make him a great best ball option.

DeSean Jackson (WR – PHI): WR42, Overall 108
He fell off a bit after the first six weeks of last season, but he started off 2018 with 275 yards and three receiving TDs in his first two games. He’s still got huge upside as one of the league’s premier deep threats and should be a valuable best ball receiver playing with Carson Wentz.

Josh Allen (QB – BUF): QB19, Overall 118
Much like Lamar Jackson, Allen showed off some tremendous rushing abilities. Despite some trouble with accuracy (52.8%), Allen still has a huge arm and a stable of brand new weapons. He’s also got some more help on the offensive line, which should make life even easier. His 89-631-8 rushing line boosted his overall fantasy numbers tremendously, and his upside is incredible.
