DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Friday (5/17)

DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Friday (5/17)

Once again the entire league will be in action for tonight’s slate of games, weather permitting. We are nearly two months into the regular season, and it is becoming a little more clear as to what teams look like contenders. Teams such as the Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, and Astros all appear to be serious about their post-season aspirations. It will be interesting to see how all 30 teams will end up when the season is concluded. For now, let’s focus on some players that can add some necessary value to those fantasy lineups tonight.

Pitcher

Frankie Montas (OAK): $8,800 @ DET
Montas has a really good match-up awaiting him this evening as he gets ready to take on the Detroit Tigers on the road. Right now, the Tigers have scored the second-fewest number of runs in the league (3.41/gm) making them a very weak opponent. In addition, the fourth-year starter currently possesses a 2.78 ERA with 42 strikeouts through 45.1 innings pitched this season. He should do really well against a lackluster Tigers lineup.

Jordan Lyles (PIT): $8,100 @ SD
Lyles has been playing some of his best baseball in his last two starts for Pittsburgh. So far for the month of May, he has only allowed two runs through 12.2 innings pitched. Also, Pittsburgh will be visiting a San Diego Padres lineup sitting just outside the bottom-five in terms of runs scored (3.84/gm). Lyles looks like he would be a solid start tonight as the Pirates continue to compete in a loaded NL Central.

Second Base

Jason Kipnis (CLE): $3,300 vs. BAL
The Indians have a really favorable match-up this evening as they will take on the last place Orioles at home. Granted, Kipnis has struggled at the plate this year as he only has a .216 batting average, along with 11 RBIs. The good news is Kipnis has gotten four hits in nine at-bats off Baltimore’s starting pitcher Dylan Bundy throughout the course of his career. Bundy also currently owns a 1-5 record, along with a 5.31 ERA for the season. This could very well be a night worth drafting Kipnis due to the conditions awaiting him.

Third Base

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (TOR): $4,100 @ CWS
The rookie for Toronto has been a sensation so far and is currently batting second in the lineup. In Guerrero’s last six games played, he owns a stat line of 2R, 6H, 2HR, 5RBI, & .286AVG. The Chicago White Sox pitching staff have allowed the fourth-most runs to opposing batters in 2019 (4.95/gm). This poses a big possibility for Guerrero to once again rake in some big numbers for the Blue Jays this evening. Fantasy managers should not hesitate to take this young stud when the asking price for him is still reasonable.

Outfield

Jorge Soler (KC): $4,100 @ LAA
Despite what looks like a dismal season in Kansas City, Soler seems to be playing fairly well for now. In his last six games played, Soler has knocked in three runs off of five hits for the Royals. He will also be taking on an Angels pitching staff which has struggled to prevent runs from scoring throughout this season currently (4.79/gm). Soler appears poised to shine under the bright lights in LA tonight.

Charlie Tilson (CWS): $3,400 vs. TOR
This may seem like an unusual pick, but Tilson has been making contact with the ball pretty well so far this season. In 37 at-bats, he has managed to produce a hit slightly over 32% of the time which is not too shabby. Furthermore, he has managed to snag three stolen bases along the way. He is also going to be playing against Aaron Sanchez this evening who has surrendered three or more runs in his previous three starts for Toronto. If all goes well, Tilson could be a dark horse candidate for a very good value play tonight.
