DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (5/20)

Monday’s featured slate brings us eight games on the MLB schedule, which provides 16 teams to pick players from. The season is approaching the two-month mark and the 2019 sample-size continues to grow, providing us with more data to utilize in our DFS plays. Let’s use that data and look at some good value plays for tonight.

Pitcher

Luke Weaver (ARI): $8,500 @ SD
Weaver is 3-2 on the season with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. From a fantasy perspective, he has amassed 20 or more points in five out of his last seven games. San Diego has the seventh fewest runs scored this season, and Weaver’s 3.16 ERA is good enough for 26th best among pitchers with a minimum of 40 innings pitched thus far.

Other Notables
J.A. Happ (NYY): $8,000 @ BAL -Happ hasn’t had a world beater type start to 2019 but, he has allowed just six hits over his last two outings and just three runs in 10 1/3 innings. He put up 13 and 26 points on DraftKings in those two outings and is facing the 8th worst offense in scoring and batting average when he takes the mound against the Orioles on Monday.

Catcher

Kurt Suzuki (WAS): $3,900 @ NYM
Suzuki has been real hit or miss at a position that seems to create inconsistency at the plate. With that said he’s averaging 6.8 FPPG with a .277 batting average, five home runs, and 17 RBI and looks to be facing off against Drew Gagnon in a spot start. There is a risk with this play, but this could be a real steal at this price.

Other Notables
Victor Caratini (CHC): $3,800 vs. PHI -Caratini is slashing .471/.571/.824 this season in 8 appearances and is facing Arrieta and his 4.02 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.

First Base

Edwin Encarnacion (SEA): $4,400 @ TEX
While Seattle has cooled off as a team, Encarnacion has continued to produce at the plate. His .255 batting average is nothing to brag about but his 13 homers and 33 RBI give him huge upside for DFS players. Encarnacion will be facing off against Rangers Mike Minor tonight who has been good to this point but is admittedly pitching far better than his career averages. Additionally, all six of the home runs he has surrendered this season have been to right-handed batters and Encarnacion has homered four times in May alone.

Other Notables
Rhys Hoskins (PHI): $4,100 @ CHC – Hoskins is slashing .259/.396/.618 and is averaging 9.3 FPPG. Tonight he goes against Yu Darvish who takes the mound with a 5.14 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP.

Second Base

DJ LeMahieu (NYY): $4,200 @ BAL
LeMahieu is batting .312 on the season and has failed to record a hit in just three games so far. While his three home runs won’t blow your hair back, his 22 RBI, 7.8 FPPG, mixed with his $4,200 price tag makes him an enticing option. Tonight he squares off against Andrew Cashner and his 4.10 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. On the season, Cashner has been knocked around by right-handed batters which should also bode well for LeMahieu.

Other Notables
Tommy La Stella (LAA): $4,200 vs. MIN -Okay, Jake Odorizzi has been great this season. This is more about betting on La Stella who is slashing .296/.349/.393 on the season and is only going to cost you $4,200.

Third Base

Austin Riley (ATL): $4,000 @ SF
19 at-bats lifetime is far from a reliable sample-size, but Riley is 8-of-19 with two home runs and four RBI since making his debut in the majors. Tonight he’ll take on the Giants Andrew Suarez who is set to make his season debut and boasts a 4.49 career ERA.

Other Notables
Yoan Moncada (CWS): $4,400 @ HOU -Moncada doesn’t have a layup of a matchup tonight against Brad Peacock, but this price tag for a guy batting .291 with nine home runs and 29 RBI is a play I’m willing to make.

Shortstop

Jean Segura (PHI): $4,300 @ CHC
Segura is batting .322 with four home runs, 19 RBI, and 9.1 FPPG. As stated earlier, given Yu Darvish‘s struggles this season, this a matchup worth looking to exploit tonight.

Other Notables
Jorge Polanco (MIN): $4,400 @ LAA – Polanco enters Monday night on a seven-game hitting streak and is batting an impressive .343 on the season. With eight home runs, 21 RBI, and a 1.011 OPS, Polanco is getting it done across the board right now.

Outfield

Ronald Acuna Jr. (ATL): $4,600 @ SF
Acuna is batting .281 with nine homers and 29 RBI. Acuna is averaging 8.9 FPPG and has put up 12 or more fantasy points in four of his last five games. Tonight he faces Andrew Suarez which is a matchup you should look at favorably tonight.

Other Notables
Nick Markakis (ATL): $4,100 @ SF – Staying with Atlanta, Markakis is an even cheaper option with this matchup and he’s batting .293 with four home runs and 26 RBI on the year.

Bryce Harper (PHI): $4,000 @ CHC – Staying with another matchup I like, Harper will face off against Yu Darvish tonight. Harper has been hot as of late with a five-game hitting streak and coming off of a weekend series with Colorado where he went 5-for-12 with two home runs and six RBI.
