Starting Pitcher
Luis Castillo (CIN): $9,600 vs. PIT
Although he struggled in his last start, Castillo has been one of the game’s best pitchers in 2019. He has a 2.38 ERA, 10.9 K/9, and 3.21 xFIP in 11 starts this season. Perhaps his previous start is being overly weighted into his price, because a pitcher of this caliber should not be under $10,000 against a weak lineup like Pittsburgh. The Pirates have a 90 wRC+ and .156 ISO against right-handed pitchers this year, both ranking in the bottom third of the majors. Owners should fade the high-priced arms like Max Scherzer ($11,800 vs. MIA) and Gerrit Cole ($11,000 vs. CHC) for Castillo, who gives us a lot more lineup flexibility. Castillo is priced so favorably that it’s not worth rolling the dice on cheaper pitchers outside of big GPP settings.
