FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Tuesday (5/14)

This 12-game main slate features a ton of quality arms which could impact the scoring output from multiple teams. Uncovering some under the radar plays may be the difference on a night like this.

Here are nine players who could potentially go overlooked and provide value on Tuesday night.

Pitcher

Jerad Eickhoff (PHI): $8,900 vs. MIL
The Brewers are a solid lineup top-to-bottom and this game will be played in Citizens Bank Park. Those are negatives on the outlook for Eickhoff. On the plus side, he’s been dealing lately and racks up fantasy points via the strikeout. His 31 punch-outs in 30 IP displays his efficiency and is crucial to his success. Milwaukee has been on somewhat of a skid lately, having lost three in a row. Their strikeout percentage of 25.3% is eighth-worst league-wide. This gives Eickhoff a great chance of returning value on an $8,900 price tag.

Brandon Woodruff (MIL): $7,900 @ PHI
Going up against Eickhoff will be Woodruff, a 26-year-old righty who averages over a SO per inning in his career. He seems to be improving with each start and has locked up a rotation spot for as long as he keeps this up. His past three starts have ended in 36, 39, and 52 FanDuel points. The total in this game is a modest 8.5 and looks poised to go under. Either one of these two are fine options and should go relatively under-owned.

Catcher/First Base

Steve Pearce (BOS): $2,200 vs. COL
A notorious lefty-masher, Pearce is in play at near min-price. He sits at .263/.348/.490 against lefties as he will aim for the monster and beyond on Tuesday night in Fenway. Kyle Freeland is the opposition and has been inconsistent, to say the least. Using Pearce in a matchup like this is low-risk with the potential for high-reward.

Second Base

Aledmys Diaz (HOU): $2,900 @ DET
Used in a utility role, Diaz has performed well for Houston. He will now fill the void left by Jose Altuve, who recently was placed on the injured list with a hamstring injury. Diaz will step in the box against lefty-starter Ryan Carpenter, who made his debut last season and has yet to really show something. Detroit’s Comerica Park is not the friendliest of offensive environments but Houston’s lineup can succeed regardless. Diaz could still be somewhat low-owned and should be strongly considered as part of an Astros stack.

Rougned Odor (TEX): $2,500 @ KC
As a recommendation here last week, Odor has been picking things up in the past seven days. He’s known as a streaky hitter and seems to be getting on a bit of a roll. He posted 28.4 FanDuel points this past Wednesday and will still be considered a contrarian option. Take advantage of his low ownership and get in now as Odor turns things around.

Third Base

Asdrubal Cabrera (TEX): $3,100 @ KC
With the total sitting at 10, Cabrera and the aforementioned Odor make for a good pairing. Somewhat of an all-or-nothing play, Cabrera’s odds of performing well increase in this matchup against left-hander Danny Duffy. In an admittedly small-sample, Asdrubal has homered and scored three runs in 14 plate appearances against Duffy. This game should be targeted when constructing Tuesday night rosters.

Shortstop

Andrelton Simmons (LAA): $3,000 @ MIN
Simmons is a steady contributor across the board and is priced accordingly. He rarely flashes monster numbers but can be a necessary balance to rosters that include boom-or-bust options. Averaging 12.4 FanDuel points over the past week, Simmons looks to continue that pace in this one. With two stolen bases in the last three games, he continues to show why he can be a meaningful piece to any fantasy squad.

Outfield

Jorge Soler (KC): $3,200 vs. TEX
Revisiting this contest, Soler is worth adding into a potential game-stack. Having what seems to be his most productive and consistent start to a season, Soler has been putting up big numbers with regularity. He goes up against Shelby Miller in this one which should have potential fantasy owners salivating.

Stephen Piscotty (OAK): $2,800 @ SEA
Similar to Simmons, Piscotty generally produces on a consistent basis. This game has a solid total of 9 and Seattle will throw soft-tossing righty Mike Leake. The Oakland lineup is getting stronger with the addition of Matt Olson who recently came off the injured list. $2,800 to roster Piscotty allows for salary-relief in other areas, making him a worthy addition with upside.
