Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 6

Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 6

Here we go with the sixth week of finding ignored pitchers turned serviceable for a day. Please take note that rotations are still dicey early in the season, so most of these streaming options are projected starters who aren’t set in stone. That especially holds true for games played later in the week, so be sure to double-check the official announcements as we move closer to each date. Got it? Good!

Take note that we are looking for pitchers who are owned in less than 30 percent of Yahoo leagues. Occasionally a recommendation will exceed that threshold if they are in a particularly favorable streaming situation.

Now let’s dive into the good stuff!

Monday, May 6

Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) vs. San Francisco (18%)
DeSclafani’s ownership rate has climbed throughout the past week, and that will continue to be the case as we move throughout the weekend. The Reds’ hurler has looked sharp over his past three starts, allowing just one earned run with 20 strikeouts through 17.2 innings. Adding even more confidence to the equation, Monday’s matchup with San Francisco is arguably his best draw over this recent stretch. The Giants rank dead last with a 66 wRC+.

Other Options: Vince Velasquez (PHI) at STL (35%), Martin Perez (MIN) at TOR (5%)

Tuesday, May 7

Griffin Canning (LAA) at Detroit (27%)
Canning’s MLB debut last Tuesday was a mixed bag. He allowed three earned runs but posted six strikeouts through 4.1 innings against the Blue Jays. All things considered, the rookie looked pretty good, and there’s a chance he’ll earn a longer leash than (82 total pitches last game) in his second start. That will come at Detroit, who ranks 23rd in wRC+ (83) with the highest strikeout rate in major league baseball (27.1%).

Other Options: Aaron Sanchez (TOR) vs. MIN (43%)

Wednesday, May 8

Kyle Gibson (MIN) at Toronto (17%)
Gibson is trying to set a world record for the most times streamed in one season. He has been a cornerstone of this article throughout the first six weeks, and the Minnesota pitcher pops his head into the conversation yet again. Regardless of what happens in his start at Yankee Stadium (May 3), this matchup at Toronto seems welcoming. The Jays rank 24th in wRC+ (80) with the second-highest strikeout rate so far this year (26.9%). Gibson was able to post sizzling numbers against an uninspiring Baltimore offense, and this seems like a spot for him to thrive.

Other Options: Felix Pena (LAA) at DET (4%)

Thursday, May 9

Michael Wacha (STL) vs. Pittsburgh (26%)
I’m surprised Wacha falls below the 30% threshold. He had a brief stint on the injured list, which probably caused some fantasy enthusiasts to click the drop button. However, Wacha came back from a knee injury to earn the win over Washington on April 30. Over his last two April starts, the Cardinals’ righty tallied 12 strikeouts with five earned runs through 11 innings. His ERA isn’t terrific, but Wacha has a reasonable chance to grind out another win against a Pittsburgh team that ranks 25th in wRC+ at 78.

Other Options: Reynaldo Lopez (CWS) at CLE (19%), Tyler Skaggs (LAA) at DET (42%)

Friday, May 10

Chris Bassitt (OAK) vs. Cleveland (31%)
Bassitt has impressed through two starts this season, throwing 12 innings with one earned runs and 16 strikeouts. He’ll have another start on May 4 at Pittsburgh, which comes after the publication time of this article. Let me know how he does! Regardless of how that plays out (barring injury), Bassitt has proven himself as a legitimate fantasy hurler with upside. He should be seriously considered as a streaming option against a Cleveland offense that ranks 28th in wRC+ at this point in the season.

Other Options: Adam Wainwright (STL) vs. PIT (12%), Gio Gonzalez (MIL) at CHC (10%)

Saturday, May 11

Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) at San Francisco (18%)
Well, this is kind of awkward. Here we are with DeSclafani again, looking at the same favorable draw against San Francisco. They’ll play this one at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park, which only furthers the rationale for DeSclafani. Under ordinary circumstances, I’d be somewhat concerned with a pitcher facing the same team in such a short timeframe. However, the Reds’ righty has looked very good as of late, and this is a promising matchup to duplicate in back-to-back appearances.

Other Options: Michael Pineda (MIN) vs. DET (14%), Drew Pomeranz (SF) vs. CIN (4%)

Sunday, May 12

Martin Perez (MIN) vs. Detroit (5%)
At the time of writing this, Perez is 4-0 on the season with a 3.41 ERA. I’m just as surprised as you. The most confusing part comes in the form of eight shutout innings (seven strikeouts) against the Astros’ lefty-mashers on May 1. His fastball velocity has improved this season, which may be why the Twins offered him a contract in the first place. Perez has his cutter moving as well, creating an intriguing streaming situation with potentially two starts (at Toronto on Monday) this week.

Other Options: Aaron Sanchez (TOR) vs. CWS (43%)
