There’s no shortage of top-shelf pitching options on tonight’s slate. However, my preference is to spin down to just below the five-figure hurlers in order to double up on more volatile high-upside options. A trio of pitchers who fit that description caught my attention on tonight’s slate, and I’ll be mixing and matching them tonight. I’ve highlighted them below. They’re joined by a pair of one-off selections who hit for massive power and a three-man stack that could fly below the radar tonight.

Pitchers
Kyle Gibson (MIN): $9,300 vs. Royals
In a dozen starts spanning 67.1 innings this year, Gibson’s responsible for a humdrum 4.14 ERA. The righty’s 3.77 SIERA, per FanGraphs, is markedly better, and his career-high 24.8% K% plays well in GPPs and is supported by a career-high 13.9% SwStr%. The Royals make for a favorable matchup tonight. They rank tied for 15th in wRC+ (94) against righties, but their current form is bad. Over the last month, they rank tied for 26th in wRC+ (80). The Twins are -224 favorites, per Pinnacle, and the Royals team over/under total is only 3.5 runs.
Andrew Heaney (LAA): $8,800 at Rays
Heaney’s a riskier option than the aforementioned Gibson, but his ceiling is higher and comes at a $500 discount from Minnesota’s righty’s salary. The Rays rank 13th in wRC+ (101) against left-handed pitchers this year, and their 112 wRC+ over the last 30 days is the eighth best in MLB during that time frame. Heaney will have some tough hitters to navigate at the top of Tampa Bay’s lineup, but it’s not a particularly deep lineup, and there’s gargantuan strikeout upside for the young hurler. Tampa Bay’s 28.5% K% against lefties this year is the highest in the league. Their propensity for punchouts plays right into Heaney’s hands. In three starts totaling 16.2 innings, the 28-year-old lefty has 28 strikeouts with a jaw-dropping 19.4% SwStr%. He’s coughed up an eye-popping six homers, but despite his tater issues, he’s scored more than 17 DraftKings points in each of his three turns for the Angels this year. I like his odds of extending that streak tonight.
