DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (6/17)
We have 24 teams in action on the evening slate. There a lot of names to sift through on a stacked night so we’ll be looking at some value plays to bolster your lineups tonight. Let’s dive on in.
Masahiro Tanaka (NYY): $8,000 vs. TB
While Tampa Bay’s .606 winning percentage has been a pleasant surprise, it has been more about their league-best ERA than it has been about their middling run-producing offense. On the other side of this matchup is Tanaka with the 13th best ERA among pitchers with a minimum of 80 innings pitched in 2019. Tanaka has a 1.18 WHIP, 74 strikeouts, and 16.1 FPPG despite a 4-5 record on the year. I like Tanaka to even up his record tonight and to have a good fantasy outing.
Mike Fiers (OAK): $7,700 vs. BAL – Fiers has a favorable home matchup against the fifth-worst run-producing offense in baseball tonight. He is 6-3 on the season with a 4.64 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 12.7 FPPG. Fiers has also been dominant of late with a 4-0 record with a 2.82 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP over his last seven starts.
J.T. Realmuto (PHI): $4,100 @ WAS
Realmuto was given a day off on Sunday after taking a foul tip to the groin area on Saturday but is listed as day-to-day currently. If Realmuto goes, he faces a good matchup in Washington’s Patrick Corbin. Realmuto is slashing .277/.331/.455 on the season with 10 homers and 36 RBI. He is seventh among catchers in RBI and is facing a guy who really struggles against right-handed batters.
Tom Murphy (SEA): $ 4,100 vs. KC – Murphy is slashing .291/.311/.581 on the season and is facing Danny Duffy with his 4.38 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Narvaez was out on Sunday so he may be back tonight, so this will require monitoring. Murphy is the guy to play at his price if he is in the lineup.
C.J. Cron (MIN): $4,700 vs. BOS
Cron has 15 home runs, 46 RBI, and is slugging .533 on the season. Tonight he will face off against Rick Porcello who carries a 4.69 ERA and has coughed up the long ball eight times to right-handed batters this season. There are currently 11 guys priced higher than Cron on DraftKings and tonight should be a good matchup for him.
Rhys Hoskins (PHI): $4,500 @ WAS – Hoskins is a cheaper option tonight and has been on fire as of late. He has hit .348 with two homers, seven RBI, and a .652 slugging percentage over his last seven games.
Michael Chavis (BOS): $4,300 @ MIN
Jose Berrios has continued to be solid this season with his 3.01 ERA, but Chavis is worth the play at this price with his boom potential from the power he brings. Chavis has 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 52 games and is slugging .474 on the year (.615 over the last seven games).
Kolten Wong (STL): $4,100 vs. MIA – Wong saw his five-game hitting streak end on Sunday but will have a good bounce-back opportunity tonight. Elieser Hernandez will be making his eighth career start against the Cardinals tonight. To this point, he hasn’t been very impressive with a 5.28 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP.
Matt Chapman (OAK): $4,300 vs. BAL
Chapman had a nice weekend, going 5-for-11 and averaging 12 FPPG. Tonight he will face off against Andrew Cashner who has struggled this season with a 4.73 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.
Rafael Devers (BOS): $4,400 @ MIN – Same story as it was with Chavis, tough matchup but a great price. Devers has 11 home runs and 37 RBI since May 1st and is on the fourth-best run-producing offense in baseball.
Manny Machado (SD): $4,500 vs. MIL
Machado and the Padres had a massive outburst this weekend, and we certainly don’t want to overreact to that. With that said, Machado slowly but surely has seen his slugging percentage increase month over month this season so this weekend may have just been his coming out party. At this price and facing Jhoulys Chacin and his 5.74 ERA, Machado should stay hot tonight.
Dansby Swanson (ATL): $4,300 vs. NYM – Swanson has a three-game hit streak and has hit in six of his last seven games. With 13 home runs and 43 RBI on the season, he continues to add value in the power category as well.
Yordan Alvarez (HOU): $4,500 @ CIN
Let’s address the two obvious cons here. First, 21 career plate appearances for the 21-year-old rookie does not create a reliable sample size. Second, his matchup tonight is against Luis Castillo who has been dominant with a 2.20 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and a 6-1 record. Despite all of this, $4,500 for a guy who is 8-of-21 with four homers, eight RBI, and a 1.471 OPS is a play I’m just not passing on right now. Add in that he is on a top 10 offense, and I can’t imagine not rolling with the hot bat.
Cesar Puello (LAA): $4,200 @ TOR
We’re going with a small sample size here again as Puello has just 41 at-bats this season. Still, in those appearances, he is slashing .390/.500/.683 and has an OPS of 1.183. Tonight he faces off against Toronto’s Edwin Jackson who has a miserable 10.22 ERA, 2.03 WHIP, and a 1-4 record.
Ronald Acuna Jr. (ATL): $4,800 vs. NYM
Acuna has been on an absolute tear of late hitting .424 with two homers and six RBI in his last seven games. During this stretch he has averaged 14.71 FPPG and tonight he will face Zack Wheeler and his 4.87 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He’s pricer than the other two outfielders listed here but will provide the safest floor of the three on Monday.
