DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (7/15)

The second half of the MLB season is in full swing now, and Monday night provides us with a nice 10-game main slate. Let’s look at some value plays to bolster your lineups for tonight’s action.

Pitcher

Adam Plutko (CLE): $7,800 vs. DET
Plutko, who has a 4.95 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 3-1 record this season, will make his first start of July tonight against the Tigers. These numbers certainly do not blow you away, but he is averaging 11.3 fantasy points per game (FPPG) and will face off against the second-worst offense in terms of runs scored. He is at a great price if he can score you around or slightly above his average point total.

Other Notable – James Paxton (NYY): $9,300 vs. TB
Paxton is 5-4 with a 4.01 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 16.5 FPPG. There are five pitchers more expensive tonight, and he dominated the Rays’ middle-of-the-pack offense just last week with 27.3 fantasy points. He’s not the cheapest option, but he provides big upside for this price.

Catcher

James McCann (CWS): $4,000 @ KC
McCann is batting .311 on the season but has been cooler as of late. Still, averaging 7.9 FPPG with a matchup against Jakob Junis — who owns a  5.33 ERA and 1.45 WHIP — presents a great opportunity to get back on track with a multi-hit night.

First Base

Michael Chavis (BOS): $4,500 vs. TOR
Chavis has 15 home runs, 48 RBIs, and is slugging .455 on the season. Despite a .258 batting average, his power has him posting 8.1 FPPG. Chavis is 2-for-5 against tonight’s opponent, Trent Thornton, this season. This is certainly less than a reliable sample size, but Boston’s rookie has the chance to combine power and average tonight at a reasonable price.

Other Notable – Jose Abreu (CWS): $4,300 @ KC
As a principle, I don’t love listing White Sox players in this article. However, Abreu has 21 bombs, 66 RBIs, and a .507 slugging percentage. Given the matchup against Junis, it’s hard to not love this play at this price.

Second Base

Mike Moustakas (MIL): $4,500 vs. ATL
Moustakas is on a five-game hitting streak and is averaging 9.1 FPPG this season. His matchup tonight is against Max Fried, who carries a 4.29 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Moustakas has a good chance of extending his hitting streak.

Other Notable – Whit Merrifield (KC): $4,300 vs. CWS
Merrifield will put his 12-game hitting streak on the line tonight against a tough opponent in Lucas Giolito. Despite this matchup, I’m buying given his reliability and price.

Third Base

Alex Bregman (HOU): $4,400 vs. LAA
Bregman has hit 24 home runs with 58 RBIs and a .537 slugging percentage. Additionally, he is averaging 9.6 FPPG this season. Tonight he faces off against Griffin Canning and his 4.43 ERA. Bregman has big boom potential tonight.

Shortstop

Freddy Galvis (TOR): $4,300 @ BOS
Galvis is just 1-for-10 against Rick Porcello in his career. With that said, Porcello is having a disaster of a year with a 5.33 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. Galvis is averaging 7.3 FPPG and is due for a big game against Boston’s struggling righty.

Other Notable – Javier Baez (CHC): $4,100 vs. CIN
Baez is slashing .289/.323/.549 this season while averaging 9.3 FPPG. Luis Castillo has been dominant this season, but Baez at this price is always worth consideration.

Outfield

Andrew Benintendi (BOS): $4,300 vs. TOR
Benintendi has been in a slump. There are no two ways about it. He’s batting just .188 over his last seven games despite residing in baseball’s best run-producing offense. Still, with this price against Thornton, he is worth the dice roll to try and bring some low-cost value to your lineup.

Aaron Judge (NYY): $4,600 vs TB
Judge is on a three-game hitting streak and is batting .302 on the season. Tonight he faces Blake Snell, who carries a 4.70 ERA on the season. Given Judge’s consistency (9.4 FPPG), matchup, and price point, he’s hard to overlook tonight.
