Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 20

Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 20

Here we go with the 20th week of finding ignored pitchers turned serviceable for a day. Please take note that pitching rotations are always fluid, so most of these streaming options are projected starters who aren’t set in stone. That especially holds true for games played later in the week, so be sure to double-check the official announcements as we move closer to each date. Got it? Good!

Take note that we are looking for pitchers who are owned in less than 30 percent of Yahoo leagues. Occasionally a recommendation will exceed that threshold if they are in a particularly favorable streaming situation.

Now let’s dive into the good stuff!

Monday, August 12

Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) at Washington (25%)
Monday doesn’t bring about many confident streaming options, so you’ll probably want to pick your spots later in the week. However, if you are looking to start the week with a pitching addition, DeSclafani represents the day’s best candidate. The matchup at Washington is neutral, but the Reds’ right-hander has been a moderately serviceable option over the past few months. DeSclafani isn’t the worst streamer mentioned in this article, but he’s not even close to “must-add” territory. Take this recommendation with a grain of salt considering the scarcity of Monday’s slate.

Other Options: Erick Fedde (WAS) vs. CIN (1%)

Tuesday, August 13

Dillon Peters (LAA) vs. Pittsburgh (2%)
Peters is definitely an interesting streaming candidate next week. The Angels’ lefty has allowed 11 earned runs with 24 strikeouts through 28.1 innings in five starts. That’s nothing to write home about, but he’s starting to pick up steam after rattling off six solid innings (8 Ks) at Boston last Friday. His first start of this week comes against a Pirates offense that ranks dead last in wRC+ to left-handed pitchers. You can read more about his second scheduled start of the week below.

Other Options: Brett Anderson (OAK) at SF (22%), Yusei Kikuchi (SEA) at DET (3%)

Wednesday, August 14

Homer Bailey (OAK) at San Francisco (8%)
We are starting to notice a pattern with Bailey, as he usually takes care of business in appealing matchups while getting shelled against tough opponents. Luckily for him (and the fantasy enthusiasts streaming him), Bailey will take the bump against a San Francisco offense that ranks 28th in wRC+ on the season. Starting in pitcher-friendly Oracle Park adds a layer of security to his fantasy prospects.

Other Options: Dustin May (LAD) at MIA (45%), Cal Quantrill (SD) vs. TB (23%)

Thursday, August 15

Devin Smeltzer (MIN) at Texas (20%)
Smeltzer had a tough outing against a red-hot Cleveland offense in his last appearance. That’s understandable for the rookie, but don’t let it overshadow his four other quality showings this season. Expect Smeltzer to get back on track at Texas, as the Rangers rank 24th in wRC+ to left-handed batters with the fourth-highest strikeout rate (26.1%). Assuming Smeltzer is granted another start here, you can safely deploy him with confidence.

Other Options: Reynaldo Lopez (CWS) at LAA (32%)

Friday, August 16

Mike Leake (ARI) vs. San Francisco (28%)
If you have been streaming for the better part of this season, then you already know the deal with Leake. He’s not known for brilliant upside, but he could turn in a feasible performance and help you in the win column. The fact that he’s facing San Francisco makes him easier to accept if your fantasy squad needs a shot in the arm heading into the weekend.

Other Options: Vince Velasquez (PHI) vs. SD (26%), Aaron Civale (CLE) at NYY (30%), Jacob Waguespack (BAL) vs. SEA (3%)

Saturday, August 17

Merrill Kelly (ARI) vs. San Francisco (21%)
Kelly comes with plenty of volatility, so be sure to assess your risk tolerance before making a move here. As mentioned with his teammate, Leake, the Arizona pitching staff will see a boost while facing a bottom-five San Francisco offense. Kelly got shelled against the Orioles and Marlins before (somewhat) bouncing back against Philadelphia last week. He’ll have another start (at Colorado) on Monday, so maybe you’ll want to check his form before deciding on him for Saturday.

Other Options: Jordan Lyles (MIL) at WAS (18%)

Sunday, August 18

Dillon Peters (LAA) vs. Chicago White Sox (2%)
Here we go again with Peters to round out the week. As mentioned earlier, the Angels’ southpaw is making two starts next week, and they are both comfortable matchups in which to expect solid fantasy contributions. He should thrive against a White Sox offense that ranks 25th in wRC+ while holding the second-highest strikeout rate in baseball.

Other Options: Jakob Junis (KC) vs. NYM (20%)
